So, I bought one of these for my home garage and here's my thoughts on it: If you're a professional mechanic like me, that's used to full height lifts, you will absolutely HATE this thing at times, however that's a moot point if you have a low ceiling height, you wouldn't be able to fit a full height lift in the first place. That being said, for what it is, it's great. A commercial lift it most certainly is not, but if you had at least 12 foot ceilings in your garage, I don't know why you'd ever buy one of these things. I Really do like the ability to remove the posts and store them, however I rarely do, most of the time they just stay in place.
@JDCarsChannel6 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you 100%. Spot on review.
@lemmy9995 жыл бұрын
What would you recommend if you had 12 foot ceilings but still needed to unbolt at least one post and store out of the way?
@ModMINI5 жыл бұрын
@@lemmy999 Does such a lift exist? Most 12 foot lifts are cable or chain load leveling types, something I think might almost be a requirement for a safe six foot lift. It is not easy to move one post of such a lift You might consider an in-floor scissor lift in that case. Takes up zero space when in use, but access to the center part of the vehicle is obviously limited (usually the lifting pads are about 30-36 inches apart)
@TheStevedie3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this input. I am NOT a mechanic, by any stretch. I only do work on my vehicles when I have to. I have built a shop for this and other things. I'm really a video game nerd...haha. But I love tools and tinkering from time to time. I've thought about installing a car lift in my shop. 18x30 (doubling it now...) gambrel style roof so I have the head room. I will just need to move the bottom chords up a foot or so so I have 12 ish feet of head room.

I am looking into getting one of these jacks for the home shop. It'd be nice for doing brakes, rotating tires and general inspections under my cars and trucks. Looking at the mounting system, I will change how that works. I plan on cutting a 16" square out of the floor where the base mounts. I will dig that down 40 inches reinforce with #5 bar and pour concrete with L shaped anchor bolts embedded in the concrete. I believe that will be stronger than an expanding anchor into concrete.

I just purchased a QuickJack but if I had a different garage space, I would definitely consider the MaxJack. One of the advantages of a two-post style lift is the ability to easily reach lift points on a variety of vehicles. With the QuickJack, it takes me a while to get it set up under the car I'm lifting. The advantage of the QuickJack is it's extremely portable, so I can place the QuickJack frames in different spots of the small garage I work out of, depending on what vehicle I work on. I will say that I don't have any regrets on buying the QuickJack- Any system that allows for more room under a low ground clearance vehicle and has an open center design is vast improvement over jackstands. Hope that helps

I've been wanting a residential garage lift and was leaning toward the MaxJax 2, but some users have left very bad reviews of it, in particular the supposedly cheap quick disconnect fittings leaking hydraulic fluid all the time, which required buyers to replace them with better quality fittings at their own expense. Also, it was reported that the system supposedly shutters a great deal when a car reaches the top and there were hydraulic cylinder failures. Lastly, very poor customer service , a repeated comment, had the most impact with me. To be fair, there were some very good comments as well, but for me the "terrible" customer service is currently the primary show-stopper.

I bought the MaxJax MX-6 (MaxJax 2) about a year ago and have had the issues you describe. However, a simple email to Danmar and some texts with some pictures and they resolved everything no questions asked. They even sent me a brand new cylinder to fix the shuddering I experienced when at the top of it's rise. I did purchase better flush-faced fittings that don't drip and have been very happy with the entire setup. I also mounted the power unit to the wall in the front of my garage as I got tired of the cart being in the way. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. It's definitely the best mid-rise lift for a home garage on the market.

I enjoyed your video just finished installing the MaxJax M6. My concrete wasn’t thick enough but Dannmar offers repour instructions on their website. I’d suggest getting a post hole level and plumb both posts. Also cover the open exposed fitting at the bottom of the hydraulic ram while drilling to prevent concrete dust from entering. I’m now in the process of wall mounting the power unit and run the hoses up and over the ceiling. I’ll need to get longer hoses made at my local hydraulic company.

Great video, thanks for making it. However I do have a couple of questions. At 3:37 you install the male to male on the end of the 2 fittings you have already installed. But the assembly manual says that male to male (hex nipple) should be installed between those two fittings you had already installed (straight expander and the 45 degree elbow). At 16:36 when you are installing the quick disconnect fittings, it looks like your fittings are rubbing up against the body of the post. Maybe if you put the male to male in the middle it might not do that. However it wouldn't surprise me for the manual to be wrong. I have found several errors in the MX6 manual.

@shanefrank32815 жыл бұрын
@@ModMINI I will be doing the same thing. So did you come out then have a single 90 degree elbow or did you have two 45 degree fittings? I'm worried that on my M6 that if I put a 90 degree on there then the fittings won't go through the hole in the column when I install the cylinder, and of course adding the 90 degree elbow once the cylinder is in place would be difficult if possible at all.
@ModMINI5 жыл бұрын
@@shanefrank3281 I used a single 90 elbow and was able to install with the piston installed in the column. I raised the lift until the carrier was held up by the safety stop, then lowered slightly to take weight off piston, and then lifted piston up slightly and put a chunk of whatever underneath the piston. Having the pump like that in the middle of work area with hoses is a prescription for accidents. Could you mount the pump on the outside lift back side and then run the hose up and over the top; mounted to the ceiling with a track to keep everything out of the way? Hose may be too short but I think getting new longer one wouldn’t be tough and it would certainly keep my ocd at clumsiness at bay.

The pump cart is fine for people who do occasional work and actually store one of the poles when not in use. For people who keep their shops busier, mounting the pump on the wall or one of the columns is a must and is easily done for under $100 in hoses and fittings. The hoses can even be unequal lengths.

He stated he went with 115 inches but it is not clear between which points he was measuring. Perhaps JD Cars could clarify?? It looked like it was from inside of plate to inside of plate not from the rear of the plate which is how MaxJax (Bendpak) states to measure (105 to 135 from rear of plate to rear of plate in their instructions). One installer went with 105 but between the inside of the plates.
@simple88188 ай бұрын
My Lexus is about 72" wide. Subtracting that from minimum recommended distance between pols of 105" you are left with 33". Which is about 16.5" on each side for the car doors. You can pull the car inside the MaxJax slightly toward the passenger side so you'll have more room to exit from driver side. Open the car door to see what distance you are comfortable getting out of the car. It would be ideal to leave 120" between the pols.

I don't think you will be able to lift a f250 with this. The fact that it is 6000lbs means its actually rated about 3000lbs front and rear (3000 x 2 = 6000) . Unfortunately pickup trucks have more weight in the front end than in the back (engine, tranny, transfer case) I'm not sure what your F250 weighs but my old f150 weighed about 6600lbs. Most of that weight is in the front say 60% or 4000lbs, you would be over 1000lbs on the front two arms. I'd say that's a recipe for disaster.

That rotary hammer is an overkill for 7/8" holes. Even the cheap Harbor Freight 1-9/16" rotory hammer is more than enough and paid for itself in two or three rental cycles. Don't expect HF to last more than a few years with moderate use, otherwise get a cordless Milwaukee. The garage concrete out here is not more than 3.5" thick, the thickness of a 2x4 stud they use as forms. Some old houses even thinner, one with not more than 2" thick, need to check and pour a new footing if need to. Nice install, very detailed.

I got 2 of the HF rotary hammer drills and both had chucks that wobbled like crazy. It was the 1-1/8 one that is about $95. So I have taken them back and will rent a good one instead.

If and WHEN they snap off or strip,,, loud cursing and strange body language will follow occurrence... That's before you begin to contact the retailer for adjustments. Came across your vid, as I'm looking to change lifts. Great installation vid with only one problem...not only didn't you lift anything with it in the video, none of your other videos do either. I was hoping to see the lift speed, the use, the locks, etc....nothin. I even looked at your other vids...nothin. Your thumbnail has the bmw lifted, but yet...nothin. This didn't strike you at any point? How about doing a full review on ownership of the lift, it's total height, what it's like to get underneath given the limited height, etc.

Check out my other videos for footage of it lifting. I should make a follow up video.

Not knowing the type of concrete that is there I would extent the tops of the post and connect to the rafters above, Not worth the risk of a collaps of the post.

FFS dude use the damn level, those shims are there to help you level the damn thing and not just to fill the gaps under the base plates and lastly you are supposed to measure and square of the bay door and not the wall since the walls are never perfectly straight and you might end up having to drive the can into the garage on a slight angle.

I personally do not recommend a 2 post lift. They can be deadly if there is a weight offset. I hope you will alwasy

Anything can be deadly... it's just a question of what's safer. This is safer than a jack and jack stands.
