Good ideas in this video. A small tip for those who are new to machining; 1:28 very dangerous to hold a piece of metal when drilling. The bit can catch and spin the piece causing a bad cut. Better to clamp it instead.

Super easy. All you need is a motor, a tonne of electronics, hours of time, a 3d printer, resin, a drill, different drill bits, belt, pulley, soldering iron, solder, screws, and even more time to learn how to do it all. Great DIY but this is by no means an efficient/cheap option unless you happen to already have a shop readily available and a lot of patience haha

The idea of these videos is to show you the principles of how such things work. If you want one you can invest the time to learn how to do it. The exact details here are not important, and you should make what suits you. For example, I can see the advantage of using the Arduino's USB port to make the slide fully programmable with a PC app to programme the moves and provide true repeatability of shots. And of course the sort of person who will take this on is exactly the sort of person who has amassed the skills and tools to do it.

Suggestion, change to 4 momentary push buttons one for seconds, one for 10s of seconds +/-, and i2c LCD screen Use that for speed control. Also add micro switches for at the end of travel for safety. OR you could also use 5 buttons, +/-, select, enter, back. and then you can adjust things like speed/distance/repeat (go back and forth non-stop) as well

Would there be a reason to not place the motor on the slider and glu the belt to the rail. That way making the length of the slide longer and shorter would become easier. And there need to go wires to the camera anyway or the motor could be on batteries if you really want no wires to the moving platform. Also "no end stops" as a safety stop would make me nervious as also an arduino can sometimes be wrong.

should make a flat electric vibration damping machine. 3 copper coils in triangle formation with their ends free, spring in center, a plate with magnets in correlation with coils, clever code that can use the polarity to attract and repel the magnets and place the plate in certain position. add a gyro to counter vibration and boom a flat electric vibration damping machine. gets rid of more vibration than silicon mounts.

Hi Max Great Video, I want to make something like this but with two motors one for sliding like in your video and the second motor for rotating the camera.I opened you arduino code and I saw this comment "//Pin 1 cannot be used for this. Start at 2." Can you tell me why, or can I use pin0 and 1 for driving the second step motor? Thanks
@MaxMakerChannel
@MaxMakerChannel 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Somehow PIn1 and Pin0 dont have the same capabilities as the other ones. it has something to do with serial comunication. It is best to always avoid them if you don´t need them. This can be a very frustrating mistake if you don´t know about it. That why when you look at tutorials they most often start with Pin2.

What kind of upgrades are needed to handle the weight of a mid-sized DSLR, like a Nikon D3200?
@MaxMakerChannel
@MaxMakerChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Horizontally none. Vertically you can get a stepper with internal gearing.

Instead of four switches, could have used just one rotary encoder. Otherwise, great work!

Is it possible to show how to make a 3 axis gimbal? I've been looking for a good way to DIY it, I'm sure you know how to do it
@MaxMakerChannel
@MaxMakerChannel 7 жыл бұрын
+MIK3xp I guess I could, but you can buy some for 150$. They are cheap and compact, so making one yourself is not worth it.

Disable the motor, move it by hand. Or just program it in.

Good job. As a videographer I would want a dampner to slow it down instead of a sudden stop. But, great job none the less. I am no good building electronics.

Thanks. You could program a de-acceleration.

I hope this will happen as soon as possible. Still. Keep making this kind of videos it's very useful. I'm myself not a man with a hands in the right place for doing all this, but can you tell, will this rig work for DLS Cameras like Canon 5D Mk II/IV or others with same sizes?
@MaxMakerChannel
@MaxMakerChannel 7 жыл бұрын
Сергей Владимирович Yes you can use it with heavy cameras if you use a nema 17 motor with a gearbox. You can get them with 1:5 up to 1:51!

How you you build and include integrate a controller for taking time lapse stills on the slider to simulate slow motion movie?

You can stick a 3.5mm plug into your camera. Add a relay to your control box that shorts two of those pins and your camera will take a picture. The relay needs to be activated by the code. Maybe every 10 steps or so.
