So "50 Shades of Grey" is about mixing model paints? Maybe I will watch that movie after all. 🤔

Great video loaded with fascinating info. Those 3D instruments are beyond belief. So detailed and exact. It is amazing to me what is available in the model aftermarket. Light years ahead of when I started modeling in the early 1960s. Back then if you wanted to wire brace an Aurora WW 1 airplane, you found your mother's sewing stuff and searched for black cotton thread.

I still basically use this rigging method occasionally...although I sometimes purchase my own spools. Sometimes I get fed up with EZ line.

Simple no RHAW antennas on F-4J intakes RHAWs on intakes were installed on F-4Ss, which were remanufactured F-4Js . Also on F-4Ns which were remanufactured F-4Bs.

Tamiya does have insignia white in their Lacquer Painto line for airbrush.

Surely the Colonel must have some photos of his plane.

I am not installing the Sanders DECM antennas on my 5526 either. There is the photo ( you had it on a previous video) of the plane on the carrier, 3/4 rear starboard side taken in 1972 that shows they were not on at the time.

Warning my friend: Hide decals in a "safe place," just don't forget where you put them. Thank you and happy building.

I would hole up in university libraries for hours. I would spend all my pocket change on Xeroxes of obscure books, at 10 cents a page.

Glad you like the 3D decals I've used them on several of my models and haven't been disappointed by them yet

Just sent you an email with more 69-71 F-4J photos, none of which have the AN/ALQ pod… I think you’re spot on in leaving it off! Looking forward to seeing the future progress!

3D decals are really good. I rarely use them prefering a paint brush, decals and dry brushing. I am quite good at that and don't enter contests, so for me this is good enough! My large scale aircraft go under the ceiling anyway.

When I joined IPMS as a teenager I contracted AMS so to speak. I ordered a copy of FS595 to make sure I was using "accurate' colors. I think Revell was the first kit maker to reference FS colors. I remember tediously mixing Pactra paints to make Light Gull Grey FS16440, and Insignia White to match the little color chips in the book. Fast forward to 2016 and I started working for test equipment manufacturer which used a light gray for the covers on their products. One day I had to touch-up the paint on one and the quart can of paint was marked FS 16440! When the company moved I snagged the paints being discarded. But even if it has not dried out I would be hesitant to use it on styrene🤔

Find a sacrificial model and have at it. You will either have melted piece of plastic or a lifetime supply of 16440.

The picture of VMFA-333 5526 “201” in tension and full burner ready to cat is sans the AN/ALQ-126 Shoulder Antenna and Wave Guide Fairings. Good call to leave them off your build (and if discovered Bear’s and Lil John’s Phantom was modded with 126, looks like the fairings would be easy to add without marring decals).

WELL THEN !!!!!! Take your time building this kit Those Instrument decals will really make it POP ….. Suggestion , take a piece of 220 grit sand paper…. Glue it down to a base…. Spray it Grey / Black …. Paint some White landing stripes…… SIMPLE QUICK MODERN AIRCRAFT CARRIER DECK FOR DISPLAY F4 Phantom would look perfect on it…. just a idea ??????????? F4 Phantom On……….. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀 CHRIS 🇺🇸

Mr Color would be my choice for airbrushing this project, they make all the proper FS military colors and are lacquers. Love the Phantom in this scheme!

Decant the lacquer into a jar! Google the process, Tamiya can - use those straws from air cans or coffee stirrer or go outdoors and spray into a big jar; best to degas for at least 20 minutes. Then airbrush your fave color!
@LemurKrazy13 күн бұрын
Was going to suggest the same. The best solution.
@CliveReddin13 күн бұрын
Only 20 minutes? I heard 24 hours but whatever works. I decant by turning the can upside down, putting a weight on it until the propellant is done. Drill a small hole at the top and cut off with a cutting wheel. Cover, let sit 24 hours then stir and spray.

The el Camino chassis looks a little out of alignment… check the wheels in the wheel-well… I think that the bumper could be misaligned because of that… 😊 it is a recurring issue that I learnt the hard way! 😅

Tamiya rattle cans! Banned in Canada so figure that one out. A gazillion modellers destroying the atmosphere up here using rattle cans. LMAO.
