The song Deutschland by Rammstein is not only about germany's history. It is also about the shame that germans feel to this day about being proud to be a german. No one should be ashamed to be proud of being born a citizen of their country, but for germans it is stll a Taboo to say "I am proud to be german and i am proud of my country" because too often we are declared Nazi's when we say things like this out loud. So deep inside we feel shamaed of being german. And this is one of the main aspects of this song.

Like eisbrecher for example? or just German bands that are rock or metal etc. because in the US we do. and we listen to Lord of the lost here too. It's a bit sad that generally more modern songs (after 2010) are more likely to have big view-counts because they were first released on KZbin and not just Re-Released because at least for my personal taste, somewhere in the 2010s the german music industry was basically destroyed by "gangster-rap". The good aspect is that most of these don't have much staying-power so we still get at least some older songs but if you look at the dates it is pretty obvious that there is a period of german music that was completely absent from this list. Fortunately it does seem that german music is VERY SLOWLY starting to come back again.

The problem with the list is that a bunch of stupid kids click on this 3rd line rap crap. And that is the basis for such lists. It goes without saying that the music from earlier years is significantly reduced in representation. If you leave out these moderately talented rap clowns, to put it nicely, a completely different picture emerges. Bands like the Ärzte, who have been making music since 1982 and are still around, are missing here. Also no trace of the Toten Hosen or the Fantastischen 4, to name just three bands.

Funny you mention all the cars. Notice how it is mostly "gangster" rap and mostly by people with migration background. Mostly from the east. @@MaxSujyGermany Yes her music is considered Schlager
@JohnHazelwood589 ай бұрын
Schlager is not popular in Germany? It is listed as the 3rd most sold genre in Germany after Rock/Pop and Oldies! Schlager musicicans sell more records than artists/groups of hip hop, rap, techno, edm and any other genres! Helene Fischer just set a record to perform in front of 130,000 fans! < that is 10 times more, than f.ex. Bushido had on his sold out concert in Berlin.
@soewenue9 ай бұрын
Schlager is still popular in the same way it was 70 years ago. The two main fan groups are still a smaller group really loving this music and many young, drunk people singing it with friends, just like it was in all times before as well. I would agree that the real fans are in majority older, but also young people are listening to it. But perhaps it is a regional thing or a difference between cities to villages.
