It's amazing how they can literally have conversations with people, not just repeat what they hear, they are so smart 🤓
@cassiespencer6134 Жыл бұрын
They primarily associate sounds with objects. For example if you hold up a cookie and call it a pumpkin they'll eventually associate the word pumpkin with a cookie when they see one. They don't know the difference between the two other than shape. They'll also repeat some sounds they hear often that are not speech. They also tend to repeat (parrot) words that are spoken with emotion more readily than if spoken normally. In short they don't necessarily understand the meaning of words, although they associate a given word with a certain object or behavior.
@tjp_real Жыл бұрын
@@cassiespencer6134 in short, that's how language works lol
@cassiespencer6134 Жыл бұрын
@@tjp_real Of course. However, not all animals 'speak' the way some parrots do. For example, dogs understand what some sounds (words) mean although they can't 'parrot' (replicate) speech the way some parrots can. That said some people wrongly claim that parrots do not understand what words mean and only 'parrot' said sound/s. That too is often incorrect. As in not always since some individual parrots do in fact understand the meaning of certain words or phrases and often act accordingly. Note: Research has shown that ability to be innate in parrots, although not all will do so. Much of it has to do with the environment (home for example) along with how they're trained.

@@cassiespencer6134 That one African Grey (what was his name again?) who once asked his handler what color he was comes to mind.
@parrot998 Жыл бұрын
@@cassiespencer6134 That is literally how humans develop a vocabulary. There is nothing objective about language, hence why they evolve so heavily. It's about associating sounds with objects and ideas. The barrier is that birds communicate ideas differently than humans. They have fundamentally different body language. So there is a language barrier that prevents the ready communication of certain ideas. You can see how Max gets frustrated by the communication barrier in this video. He isn't really angry about apples. He's angry that he is asking something specific and thinks it's not being understood.

To address some of the comments: 1. I learned how to throw a tantrum like this in my first home - I lived in a basement and there was a lot of yelling including the language that I was using in this video. (I haven't heard these words for over 18 years, but I remember). 2. Momager treats me like a toddler. A tantrum doesn't result in attention or treats. You never reward undesirable behaviours. 3. Momager waited until after I had calmed down and played quietly before offering me what I had originally wanted. 4. Prior to this video I had just eaten an apple, and she didn't think I was still hungry, that's why she engaged in conversation. 5. A Moluccan Cockatoo is very much like a toddler. 6. Parrots and other birds can be loud, noisy and require a lot of attention. It's not all rainbows and sunshine - very important to show the louder side of having a parrot. (This is why parrots don't make great pets). 7. I am a rescue I came from a bad situation but have found my forever home. When I am overtired old behaviours come out.. 8. I have a really good life - lots of enrichment, healthy foods, attention, entertainment and adventures. I am living my best life. My momager believes in adopt, don't shop - there are many birds in rescues who need forever homes that meet their needs. 9. To learn more about me watch The Story of a Rescue - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXfKlol4dryKZsk and check out some of my other videos. You will see that I have a fantastic life!

How did you even get this bird in america there a protected species
@DrAnderson12 жыл бұрын
@@brettmcaskill4450 - *They’re. (“They’re a protected species.”) Also, what? Moluccan Cockatoos (otherwise called Salmon Created Cockatoos) are among the most abundant med/large bird species in captivity in the United States, and also one of the most abundantly sold med/large birds in the country. They can range in price from around $1200 - $4000, and are relatively easy to find. While they are considered a protected species in a number of countries, a protected species doesn’t inherently mean they cannot be kept as pets, bred, raised, sold, or traded. They’re protected because 87% of their natural indigenous habitat has been lost, or destroyed by human intervention; deforestation, fires, and issues involving climate change. This has drastically reduced the number of *wild* Moluccan Cockatoos, and places them in danger of extinction in the wild. The distinction of “protected” class simply means that it’s illegal to capture & sell *wild* birds, not that it’s illegal to own captive bred & raised birds. It’s illegal to purposely damage their remaining known *wild* habitats and/or breeding grounds…it’s illegal to kill *wild* Moluccan Cockatoos for being a nuisance…etc. But Cockatoos in general are not indigenous to any areas in the United States, so they are not a protected species here. We have no reason to classify their distinction & create laws to protect wild birds, which do not exist in the wild, under our domain.

He mighta been sleepy is why he may have thrown a temper tantrum. Children sometimes do that right when it's around their bed time and they are tired and can't understand what their body is telling them to do yet. That bird is very smart and articulated well itself.
