Squirrels are probably fine this year. This was a mast year for oak trees so they dropped many times more acorns than they normally do to overwhelm critters that eat their acorns as a means of increasing the odds that some survive to establish new trees. They'll be fairly plump this winter.

Check your Antifreeze.. We don't have a deep freeze very often in the FL panhandle and Deep South, So, Check your cars radiator. Remember water freezes and just a cup of antifreeze could make a difference. Remind all the youngsters to check their cars radiator. I know there are a lot of people , especially young, out there where this is the last thing on their mind due to more pressing things like trying to live/exist in today's world., It was tough when I wore a younger mans clothes and it's tougher today, but at 70y/o I hope I have learned a few things to pass on to the children. Check your Antifreeze. Frozen and cracked engines/radiators were a cost I couldn't afford in the seventies and are a cost no one can afford these days. Good forecast. Thank You...

Is this a Geriatric Bot? Most off-the-shelf antifreeze has a bottom temperature of -34f. It's already diluted in a 50/50 concentration. Using antifreeze is so ubiquitous that no one says "check your water." Your warning should be: check your cold cranking amps.

Mechanic here, running plain water in your radiator doesn't work, it just boils off and causes corrosion. The true purpose of "antifreeze" is to raise the boiling point of the water. It should be drained and refilled every 2-4 years for the average driver, neglect will lead to corrosion that costs a lot more money down the road. Something even more alarming and that we see often are damaged windshield washer systems, most Southern auto shops put summer-rated washer fluid in your bottle, it's important that you drain that out and put in at least 0F rated fluid that won't freeze at night. You would be surprised how expensive the bottle, lines, sprayer nozzles are to replace.

Last year, my flight from DC to VT was cancelled the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving as the NE was being hit by a steady, driving rain. I ended up jumping in the car and driving to VT overnight. and be prepared for whatever Mother Nature might dish out. I spent a winter in Montana several years back that was unreal. Thank God the place where I was at was sturdily built (THICK log walls and plastered inside and out), I had plenty of firewood, coal, and propane, a well-stocked pantry and root cellar, and a generator with a nice stock of gasoline if the power went out. The snow was pretty heavy, but what was really brutal was the temperatures/wind chill. Luckily, I didn't lose power, but it was COLD! When I did have to go out, I had to bundle up so much I could hardly move, but I loved it.
