After Katrina I went to the spot on the Biloxi coast where we had vacationed every summer since I was a kid. I wasn’t sure I was in the right place. Every building and tree was gone. The entire marina was gone. Not wrecked. Gone. Washed away. It was disorienting and eerie.

I was alive during Camille (about 10 yrs old). I recall that some of the earliest satellite photos were broadcast then. Not nearly the media coverage as we have now. It was devastating for the Mississippi coast. Biloxi and Gulfport (took the brunt of Katrina surge as well) were washed away essentially. 100s died near the coast.

This storm SCREAMS hurricane Ida big time.... I don't like that at all.... I remembered Hurricane Ida back in 2021. My hometown got hit by Ida's eyewall in Houma Louisiana.. she was 1 mph short of a low grade Cat 5 Hurricane with peak winds of 156 mph. Big Ben Florida is going to look like Houma after Hurricane Ida got done with us 😳😳😬😬 ... That wasn't fun at all. We were out of power for 2 weeks after the fact.

I asked& people said places have weather, geology & civilization problems. No 0 risk but some places are safer than others. Better to live in seasons changes place vs hot city like Phoenix. If you can afford to move out, please live in safer places. No sense to live in hurricane, tsunami, etc if you can afford to live in safer place. Any ideas? I used to live in Crawfordville, FL. I have many friends there in Wakulla County. I pray they all stay safe! The Appalachia National Forest is there too. I was there for Hurricane Ivan and even though it hit Pensacola, we had high winds, storm surge and heavy rains. I’m terrified to see what a CAT 4 could do to this area. Please be safe! ❤

This is going to a monster of a hurricane, anyone in the 15 - 20ft storm surge areas is hopefully following the mandatory evacuation and heading inland since that is an unsurvivably high storm surge. Helene will impact areas like Atlanta and TN with flooding. Stay safe down there in Florida.

Im in central fl. Native Floridian. This is the largest storm ive seen near us. If this storm entered the state from the bottom of the state and went right up the midde it would be an absolute disaster.

@@janp7660they wait because one day they say one thing and the next day another, then a few hours later it changes paths. There is a lot of uncertainty with hurricanes. I’m new to living in hurricane prone areas and it’s a lot different than all the tornadoes my previous home state had. I thought like you until I moved to Florida. I understand now.

The long arms coming off the eastern side of the storm love to spin up strong thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes.. especially if your on the coast and those storms are getting some fuel from the Atlantic!

Man what its going to look like tomorrow... scrap the forecast models as of noon tomorrow this is unpredictable of what its going to be like but other then massive and strong.
