I bought a 1965 bug brand new when I was 18 yrs old. I was so proud of that little car and drove it for 8 yrs. I have fond memories of that car. I paid $1,955.14 out the door and when I got rid of it in 1973 I sold it for $900. I put 156,000 miles on it. When I was in the Navy I had it shipped to Hawaii. It was the perfect car for Oahu. I also met my wife in Hawaii and we went everywhere in that car. You are a true craftsman to take on a project like this, you made it look easy but a lot of sweat equity.

This is the VERY BEST restoration! It shows that one person, who found the right bug went ahead with willingness, perseverance, and commitment was able to restore this bug almost to a new condition. (those tiny imperfections don't count, it brings character to the restoration) Thank you! Thank you again! You are the personification of restoring something that was left out as junk. No fancy garage, no special tooling, just showing to everyone that it can be done. I watched it with sound off.
@jerseybob44712 жыл бұрын
Excellent restoration. In 1963 I bought a new VW Beetle with a factory rag top sun roof. Cool. My first new car. $1650 for the bug, $90 for the sun roof, and $5 for an outside mirror. Total $1745. I couldn’t afford a Blaupunkt car radio so I bought one at Pep Boys and installed it myself. I drove that car to and from Florida several times and a round trip to California on Route 66. Fond memories.

That inserted drama crap has killed many a decent show, like American Chopper, Pawn Stars, etc., etc. They all became unwatchable after a few years. American Copper started out 80% bike building, 20% arguing. After a few years, it was 20% bike building, 80% nonsense. I have to hand it to Monster Garage. The producers came at Jesse James to do that stuff and he said "Screw it, I'll just stop doing the show." And he did.

I have owned 11 VW Bugs beginning with a 1956 oval window, 1962 Convertable, 1966 Bug, 1968 Bug, 1972 Super Beetle, Built a 1968 VW Trike Bike, bought & flipped several others and have owned a 2012 VW Bug since new and just took it off the road at 157 K miles....will partially restore and sell to young kid. I just bought a "Covid Car"...2019 VW Jetta SE-R, winter package.....it was purchased brand new and the lady put 1500 miles on it, caught Covid & died. Car sat in heated garage until one month ago when the family traded it in on an SUV. I LIVE AND BREATH VW....thank you for the GREAT VIDEO.

I just love that! It's heartwarming that your son was involved too, great camera work!! You know these days the whole father - son bonding seldom happens anymore, treasure it!! What your doing with your son is what i wished i had with my father, so (to your son) you have no idea how fortunate you are, stay as close as you are now with your dad make that bond last a lifetime, and never forget how incredibly "cool" your dad is, and how very very fortunate you are!. It's a wee shame we didn't get to see your wife drive the car in the final few seconds of the video though hahaha 😊
