What fun to get that off. I just replaced one at work. It was buried and not accessible at all from on top. Next one I will try and make a video. Thank you for the tip on cleaning it.

Love how everything falls back into place! I remember I had left the valve cover gaskets in the parts- washer, and they expanded 😰 I was ready to go buy new ones, but I put them out in the sun for a few hours and they returned back to their original size. 😅 I learned my lesson

Hey there GT. We try to almost always replace gasket. Almost being the WORD used. Lol. Hey. How’s the Tahoe working. Did the cam and delete make a small/big difference. I know u said it was a stage 2. Just a little curious. That’s all

@@JoesBusBarn it made a hell of a difference! I checked this last time I fueled up. $40 premium (13.8 gallons @ $2.89) gave me 140 miles. I'm ok with that 👍 Has plenty of power, and everything is running great! Just got for an oil change, which it Really needs it. Thanks for asking, hope to see you soon😎👍

Felt like I should comment on this for anyone who needs this information. They have since revised this filter system and instead of it venting to intake it vents to atmosphere assuming you have a baffled valve cover. I just put one on a 2011. if you need to remove the CAC, you will have to remove the radiator at the same time in the support frame. If I did it again, I would leave the frame completely assembled lay the charged air cooler face up fill it with diesel. Let it soak, then pour it out on the side And clean it out the rest of the way with water/break clean.

Joe , that was great information. Thanks for the detailed explanation I was going to change a turbo on a customers maxxforce and noticed that oil was puddling in the tube that goes back to the air cleaner. But, thought there’s no way the turbo is sucking it up through the air cleaner tube decided to research and found your info... thanks again..

Cleaning the charge air coolers. We built a neat little contraption that somewhat works. I’ll post a vid in the near future. Like I said. It’s a make shift deal. Looks rough but works.

Joe, have a breather on same vintage engine. Pushing oil out of it. Is that a symptom of dirty or not spinning plates? One of our mechanics thinks it rings.
@JoesBusBarn3 жыл бұрын
Hey there Tom. Most of the units that have come into the shop (oil consumption) have been a bad breather assy. One way to diagnose is to see if the hose on the top part of it (leading into turbo inlet hose) is oily. That is a sure sign of the breather being contaminated and disks are not doing their job. If u want. Send me an email and I’ll try to help u diagnose ur units issues. Joegonz268@gmail.com

Is the Volvo units serviceable as well? They said at dealership not serviceable. They are $1800 in Canada no labor!! My D 16 is using a ton of oil

Doug Besplug Haven’t worked on a Volvo crank case breather assembly. Is the oil consumption due to a bad breather. If it is the cause. Your charge air cooler is going to have to be cleaned.

We have in our fleet rear engine maxxforce dt with a spn 102-Fmi 10 I have check everything expected the crankcase will this cause slow boost response thank you
@JoesBusBarn3 жыл бұрын
Hey jimmy. Check the the turbo to see if oil is coming in from air filter below. If there is oil residue. You might want to clean or replace the crankcase breather. Yes. It will cause a slow boost. Another common issue is the exhaust back pressure sensor. Make sure the EBP sensor tube is free flowing (not clogged). Hope this helps

How will you be cleaning the inside of the air charger?
@JoesBusBarn4 жыл бұрын
J&R Going to try to run a chemical (cobra clean) through it. I am working on a tank/pump that will recirculate the chemical through it for a few hours. Hoping that works out.

Question.. for that breather on that specific unit. Did you have to disconnect that coolant hose and line off that cooler ??
@JoesBusBarn3 жыл бұрын
Hey there Mitchell. Yes. Drain coolant and remove bypass hose to make it easier to remove and install.
@MRD08893 жыл бұрын
@@JoesBusBarn Thanks bud, ill get to work on that tomorrow. Also is there an O-ring on that bypass line that i should replace on that oil cooler?

@@JoesBusBarn okay so I have picked up the parts Breather / oil separator O ring for oil cooler Coolant Oil filter and oil But I have a some what silly question I picked up 15W50 synthetic blend. Is the 15W50 okay for this engine or should I keep to the 15W40? This engine has 300,094 miles and the last repair was the oil pucks on the oil rail with the oil pressure solenoid and the ICP. I also noticed that the oil pan was resealed. I just want make sure because starting Jan I put this unit to work and I really need to make sure it's gonna get my money back lol Thanks Joe

Do you guys always clean them as international says it not serviceable part? Does that always work? It’s an $800 part. Thanks.
@JoesBusBarn4 жыл бұрын
Sooprtrukr 80% of them r cleaned. We only replace the o-ring seals. We only replace if separating disks r burnt (melted).
@sooprtrukr4 жыл бұрын
Great. Thanks for the reply. Just spent 2700 on front main, timing cover, and fan drive to stop oil leak and it made it worse. This is my next step after international told me this is most likely the cause of my truck being painted in oil down passenger side.
@JoesBusBarn4 жыл бұрын
Sooprtrukr They recommend replacing them (their convenience). We found that cleaning them with oriellys (purple power works great. Make sure all disks seat properly. U don’t want them to bind. We made that mistake already.
@JoesBusBarn4 жыл бұрын
Sooprtrukr Is that oil leak on pass side only at the bottom of the engine. If it is. You might want to check the 2 side hoses on the breather assembly and the one at the top of the breather. Hose might be loose.
@JoesBusBarn4 жыл бұрын
Sooprtrukr are ur turbos saturated with oil. That’s a tell tell sign breather is not functioning properly.
