Maxxis Unveils World Cup-Winning Rekon Race

The Rekon Race is the latest XC tire from Maxxis. This semi-slick tire may be brand new, but it already has an impressive resume, including a win at the 2017 Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup underneath Nino Schurter!
Bicycle marketing manager Aaron Chamberlain (@chamaaron) gives a brief overview of the new tire, including the specs available, weights, and intended use.
Initially one size of the Rekon Race will be offered with two spec options:
29x2.25 non-EXO (610g avg. weight)
29x2.25 EXO (670g avg. weight)
Both specs feature our 120 TPI tubeless ready casing, and dual compound rubber.

I absolutely love mine, nearly gravelbike levels of rolling speed (I run them front and rear) but it can IMO still be called a proper mountainbike tyre. Not overly grippy as a front tyre but it’s very predictable when riding on the edge, which I value over all out grip. The only thing it doesn’t like is clay mud but that’s well beyond the tyre’s intended use. Fair to say you really nailed it with this tyre.

Hi there. How is the 2020 rekon race 2.25 roll in asphalt or pavement? Do you think it roll very fast on pavement compare to other brand

The tire is designed for riding on dirt, but they will roll pretty well on asphalt as well. Pavement will degrade the tire relatively quickly. Compared to other brands, it is hard to say.

Thanks, what are your thoughts about Giant running these tires both front and rear on their XTC (SLR) line? Just bought an Ikon for the front after some slippery rides on technical terrain

Running the Rekon race front and rear is a great combo for dry XC conditions. Unfortunately, no tire handles all conditions perfectly. Your current setup with the Ikon up front should help in those slippery situations.

If i'll try Recon Race 29x2.25 rear and Ikon 29x2.2 front, it will be ok for XC?

Yes, that would be a great fast XC setup. For a more front traction you might also consider the 29x2.35 Ikon as it has slightly larger shoulder knobs than the 2.20 or the Rekon 29x2.25 if your terrain is more loose/technical.

Yes, that would be a great combo and you may want to also check out the 2.25 Rekon on the front with the Rekon Race in the rear for great performing XC combo.

It will be one of the best options for an occasional "road" mountain bike tire. However ,if you are riding predominately all road, there are better options such as the Hookworm or Torch (tube-type tires and not tubeless).

Can I use these 29x2.25 tyres with DT SWISS XRC 1200 30mm rims? I've just seen a bike article of Kate Courtney using these tyres with her DT XMC 1200 30mm rims

MaxxisTiresUSA I always ride on hardpack trails as my back and hips are smashed to bits from big stuff in my youth. So now I’m restricted to XC riding but I still like to go fast on Scott scale 650b. Wanted to stick with Maxxis as they are better when tubeless and are overall a better brand than the alternatives. Stuck with continental for now or maybe time for a new 29er. Thanks for the reply!

Если Rekon Race 29x2.25 120 tpi (exo, tr) - ставить на заднее колесо, что лучше поставить на переднее - Rekon (29x2.25 120 tpi, 3c, exo, tr) или Rekon Race или какую-нибудь другую??? Сейчас стоят Maxxis lkon 29x2.20 заводские. Велосипед Merida Big Nine 200 2021. Езжу и по асфальту и по пересечённой местности

The Rekon has more aggressive knobs and would make a great front tire for cornering control. The Rekon Race is a filed down version for low rolling resistance and speed which would make it a good tire for the rear.

Поэтому просил брата привезти мне из Эстонии. Maxxis Rekon Race, там у них есть, а Maxxis Rekon - почему то нет на сайте у официального дистрибьютора Merida на страны Прибалтики.

@@MaxxisTiresUSA Сегодня переписывался с этим дистрибьютором лично, уже даже Rekon Race у них уже нету - все продано, а обычной Maxxis Rekon - у них и не было, и сказали что не будет даже под заказ. Буду искать или территории Беларуси, или кто сможет привезти из Евросоюза. А пока - когда брат привезет Rekon Race - установлю его на заднее колесо, а на переднем - пока Maxxis lkon 29x2.2 60tpi wire поездит. Быть может в скором будущем найдем себе на переднее колесо Maxxis Rekon (29x2.25/2.35 120 tpi (3c, exo, tr)

В ближайшее время хочу ещё стоковые обода Merida Big Nine 200 (2021) Comp CC заменить на DT Swiss X 432 с 25 внутренним диаметром. Чтобы покрышки Maxxis максимально раскрылись во всей своей красоте. На стоковые обода, почему то ни в какую идеально устанавливаться не хотят, слегка криво устанавливаются. Может дело именно в самих ободах. Резина и колеса в сборе один из главных и важных элементов велосипеда - поэтому я начал совершенствовать свой велосипед именно с колес
