Grainline archer shirt is wonderful too, no darts ,but a little shaping ,it also has brilliant you tube step by step tutorials .

You could always lengthen the original collar of your shirt to fit how you want it. The Fabric is lovely and the shirt goes beautifully with your new trousers. 💜

Hi Lois, I think now I've given it some time I would like to try again. It's a really enjoyable make and as you say, it shouldn't take much work to lengthen the collar piece x

I just discovered bias binding to do curved hems and it’s a game changer. Such a nice finish. And if you get the cute stuff it’s a little fun surprise. 😊

That's a brilliant idea, thanks Mary! I have some Specky Seamstress bias binding so will definitely use that next time. Thank you so much for the tip! 🥰

If it makes you feel any better, I live in France and it has rained and rained and rained. All my dog walks in the woods have been like wading through mud! I was very interested to hear about your button up shirt as I have just made my first, the French Navy Belinda shirt in a lovely Art Gallery fabric. I am so pleased with it. The only bit I struggled with was the binding for the sleeve vents but otherwise it went well. I have also been to a sale. Cousette have an annual sale of roll ends and remnants and it is such fun to get my hands on actual fabric rather than buying online. Some remnants are sold by weight so I got 1.3 kg of fabric for 13 euros which consisted of three pieces of linen and jersey, so I was very happy. I am really looking forward to seeing your patterned jacket. I made an ochre patterned jacket and it is one of my favourites.

Hi Kate, the Cousette sale sounds like fun! How lovely to be able to get your hands on some beautiful French fabric at sale prices 😍 Very envious x

Your shirt is lovely! I’ve not seen a collar like that but open I think it looks really great, and the fabric and colour is lovely on you !! But I can tell you’re a bit “meh” 😂 I love Laura Ashley fabric!! You got a great bargain there!
@SeamStressedRuth7 ай бұрын
Definitely a 'meh' on that one, I'm not sure I even like it enough to try again which is sad because I thought I'd love it. Never mind, on to the next one 🥰

I love your Robbie pants, I went and checked out the pattern, I noticed that you did the pockets differently, yours I prefer X

Thank you 🥰 I used the pocket pieces from the All Well Studio Pants, I was not keen on the placement of the Robbie pockets x

The "girls" are keeping a close eye on your sewing!🤣 I'm not sure you could win with that print. Looks like someone would end up in an unfortunate place no matter what you did! That Laura Ashley fabric is stunning. You got a real bargain with it! I just took a peek at your pattern wish list. I'm planning to make The Atelier Shirt with the pleated back. I've been lusting after that pattern but I just won't have time to make it until the fall or even next winter. Maybe some beautiful white linen/viscose and a pattern on my Christmas list?
@SeamStressedRuth7 ай бұрын
😂 They sure are! The Atelier Shirt is a stunner isn't it! I would really like to make either the pleated or the gathered version, they are so different but yes like you say, probably a cooler weather make now x

I've just bought the Butano shirt, and have not yet read the instructions, but the sew along video looks very helpful for all the steps.

True, the sew along's are usually very good. Unfortunately I was impatient and made it up before that was available 🤦♀️

Another brilliant vlog Ruth and absolutely love those trousers! A great outfit for London and UK unpredictable weather. I am about 20 miles from Belfast and have only had a few days with heat and sun and I do love both! As for your collar I made a shirt for my grandson recently and it was exactly like yours. He loves it but I thought it was odd when I made it but it just must be a style. Your new Laura Ashley fabric is great and who doesn’t love a bargain 😂 Looking forward to your new jacket xx

Thank you Alison! If it's a new style I'm not sure it's one for me 😄 I will keep looking x

Ruth, I love your calm voice, its so soothing - I realise that sounds weird 😂 I know exactly what you mean with instructions that seem to 'give up', like they can't be bothered at that stage! With the butano you could tweak the collar piece without having to use another pattern x
@SeamStressedRuth8 ай бұрын
Ah thanks Tania 🥰 Good idea about the collar, maybe I could add an extra inch to the centre so it's a bit longer? If I make it again I might try that, thank you for the tip. Good luck with your afternoon tea, it sound like it's going to be a lot of fun. I wish I was closer x
@Yorkygirl595 ай бұрын
Update on the Butano - step 31 definitely has some bits missing. It should say "you are only pinning your COLLAR to one layer of the collar stand...", and they have missed the seam allowance required. At the beginning it says seams are 3/8" or 1 cm unless otherwise stated, but it fails to mention at step 31 that this should be 1/4", which I only noticed as I was watching the KZbin sewalong where she mentions this. I also have a bit of a gap in between the collar ends, although not as much as you have, but I reckon this is to allow for the neck tie, as you say. I probably won't button it up at the top, so it's not a problem. I am attempting poppers with my new Prym Creative Tool - eek! Just ready to attach the sleeves now, but I might give it a rest for today.

Sounds like it's coming along nicely 🥰 I do wear mine but I'm not sure I'll make another. I hope you have more success with yours x
@Yorkygirl595 ай бұрын
@@SeamStressedRuth I've now finished it and it has turned out quite nicely, thank you. The poppers went on well and appear to be secure! I am undecided about another one, but I do have another shirt pattern to use, which made up well before.

I love a shirt too but just wasn’t drawn to that pattern I think because of the length. I do love the Closet Core Jenna the construction is almost perfection.
@SeamStressedRuth8 ай бұрын
It's an odd length, it makes it feel a bit dated I think so I would definitely shorten it if I make it again. The Jenna, I love it too! Maybe I need to give in and buy that one too 😊

I love your trousers and they look great with the Vans. I'm not at the stage yet of attempting a button up shirt - I have the Birdie button up half made up as a toile but it doesn't fit anywhere so it's in the "think about it and do it later" pile. I'm currently making the Althea blouse by Chalk and Notch and the Kalle shirt by Closet Core so plenty to keep me busy. Always really enjoy your videos.

Hi Avril, thank you so much! I was quite intimidated by shirts at first but I love making them now. They are so satisfying! I really like the look of the Kalle shirt but not made it yet. You can do it, I'd love to hear how you get on x

Hi Sue, thank you so much for watching. I will have a think about that but if there is ever a pattern you are thinking about making, always do a search on here as someone may already have filed a sew along which could help. Enjoy your new skills xx

Thanks for the heads up about the butano collar. I think it might be quite easy to add some length to the collar so it sits closer at the front??
@SeamStressedRuth7 ай бұрын
Hi Elaine, yes I think it would be a fairly easy adjustment but I'm not sure I like the pattern enough to even try. Sad because I really thought I'd love this one. Oh well, on to the next make x

Thanks for the review of the butano, I’m wanting to make the shirt from the mimi gee book and maybe the new sewing bee book so I resisted buying it. The description of the collar, I find that with the patina blouse too, it doesn’t meet properly at the top of the buttons. I enjoy making quite a few other Friday pattern company patterns though. My go to shacket is the julien chore jacket from ready to sew, maybe it’s time to make another one. 😅

Your makes came out so nice, but I do agree that the neck on the top is not completely right. I find it frustrating when the instructions are not clear. The new fabric is beautiful and it did need to come home with you. Nice spending time with you
