A quick breakdown of how to project a layer separated matte painting onto simple mesh for a feature film style establishing shot.
Note: For rendering simple full color, set the viewport to Lighting - Use Flat Lighting. Also Maya seems to be buggy duplicating shader networks, just create new shaders
