Questions to Maya's friends 1. Was there at any time you were worried amongst: traffic / people? 2. How many times were you annoyed by the Danish way of doing things and what? (be honest😁) 3. Did you ever have to ask people for help and if you did - did you have any problems: people refuse to help/demand payment to help or language barriers? 4. Was there anything that came as a pleasant surprise? 5. What would be your answer to American parents that considered allowing their kids going on "their own" to Denmark. American's - like Danes - mega

As an American, we don't have any koldskål or kammerjunker here. It's actually even kinda hard to find buttermilk in the grocery stores I go to. But because I so badly wanted to try it, I decided to make my own one summer. Maya's friends are gracious guests to not say they hate it despite their facial expressions giving it away a bit, because I know when I first tried it I was not a fan at all hahaha. That said, I knew it was a taste that could be acquired and once I was on my third bowl I knew I was hooked. It is sooo delicious and refreshing, I love it!

@@michellejensen4090 Some are. As I said, then it depends. I have seen it with blended rubarb, blended melon or blended strawberries as well. Even the name it self is not what we know it as today. In my 1946 cooking book, it is a drink. Actually two basic recepies. One is based on beer and the other is wine. It is basically a sirup that you cook and then mix with cold water. A kind of cool aid if you like. The one we know today, can also be eaten with tvebakker. As per the recepie from that year. That however is called "kærnemælks koldskål" and not just "koldskål". You can use ymer, tykmælk or skyr as well, mixed in kærnemælk.
@brostenen3 жыл бұрын
@@michellejensen4090 I even have a 1904 recepie that I want to share. You will be wondering as to why, but it is actually real koldskål compared to the crap that are ready mixed. No one, will ever serve koldskål this way today. And it is extremely far from what we know today. It just explains that there are no definition on what it is exectly, as it have always been a contemporary recepie. However the name is the only thing that are the same. Each family have their own recepie. Each family serve with different toppings. Like honey roasted oat-grains.

What a lovely surprise. Good for all you girls. About the koldskål - it's buttermilk base. You should try adding a bit of fruit, cubes/slices of ripe banana with a few cubes of apple, or slices of strawberry. And you also have to crumble the kammerjunkere (cookies) on top just before eating, so the kammerjunkere stays crunchy :)
