Maya has totally by accident had the best character arc ever on this show. She was this happy girl who thought she had everything and the guy of her dreams. Her problems in season one was small breasts and cello problems. Then Cam died and she didn't know how to react, her perfect life wasn't that anymore. So she left those memories behind her and instead of learning from cams mistakes tried to ignore them. She dated guys who would likely do the same thing as Cam (miles is who I'm referencing) but she continued to ignore it. She slowly started hanging out with more and more toxic people, some of whom became genuine friends and others screwed her over. She wasn't a little girl anymore. Now she experiences a horrifying disaster and she understands Cam now. But for her it's not about the pain it's about the beauty of it. I think she loves Cam to this day and needs to release this sadness she can't get rid of. Zig is the closest thing she had but even he broke her more. I can't stop crying about Maya's arc, it's so sad, sadder then any character in any tv show I've ever seen. Thank u for uploading this its my fav song from the show.

I agree that Clare was sad but she didn't develop because of these things, the KC thing changed her and being with Eli changed her, plus the miscarriage. But Clare beat cancer and came out the same woman, unchanged by anything. The harassment from her boss is the same situation. Maya's is so much sadder because she learns from her mistakes and her storyline has been a very believable downward spiral.

Noah Resiner I couldn't agree more with what you said here. You nailed it. It's amazing what they've done with her character. Seeing her character arc is great and sad at the same time. Never would have thought this was the direction they were heading with Maya's character but I always never fully believed she coped and got over Cam's death. Just watching this season it's all I kept thinking about with all she was going through. The writers had a plan and look what story we got from that plan. This is exactly the reason why I watch this series. The stories are always so compelling and they make you feel all types of emotions. It just becomes so much easier connecting with the characters.

putting aside how serious Maya's storyline is, I think in this scene she had truly made peace with herself about committing suicide. that's why she spent the last night with her family, and why she was in a good mood the next morning because she knew that she was finally going to be free at the end of the day. no more sadness, anger, and numbness; no more people leaving her and no more people not understanding her. she was going through her pictures and reminiscing because she truly loves the people in those photographs but she felt as if they'd be better off without her. she wrote this song as her farewell to let people know that even though she was going to be gone, she was going to be happy because she was going to a better place. she smiled at the end because she knew that that day was going to be the first time in a long time where she was going to feel something; where she was going to be free. I related to maya this season so much because almost 2 years ago I went through the same situations which were depression and numbness and her character arc really showed just how serious those situations are. Olivia acted them out so well to the point where the storyline was beautifully executed and i can't wait to see what's in store for Maya next season.

Yeah that's how I saw it to. As someone who also struggles with depression, I could tell as soon as her personality started getting more positive that she decided to kill herself since that freedom is generally how you feel at first. Which hurt me personally because I love Maya as a character and can relate a lot.

Maya's character arc really put tears to my eyes. Watching her go from this happy girl to going on a downward spiral was hard. I wanted so badly to reach through the screen and make her happy. Even though she is just a character, her situation is real and serious. She acted them out perfectly and made it very believable. I'm looking forward to season 4 even though season 3 made me cry.

I like how this song has two meanings: it could mean Maya's attempt at suicide where she thinks that if she kills herself, she'd finally be free of everything and because she thinks everyone would be better off without her but I also like that it could also mean the graduation scene where everyone's heading into different paths in life after high school and they're finally free. It's such an amazing song! I wish there was a full version to it!

I haven't rlly cared much for Maya or Olivia's acting and singing the past few seasons, but this season was amazing. Felt like I was watching the old Degrassi. Maya's arc this season has got to be the most realistic, touching and well done depression/suicide storyline that Degrassi has ever done. I finally cared about Maya again, and Olivia's acting and singing was a has improved from the past couple of seasons. Degrassi Next Class season 3 is the best season of Degrassi in such a long time. It's renewed my love for the show and made me care about a lot of characters who I didn't rlly care much for before. Well done. I hope that season 4 is just as good!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! This song gave me so many feels. Olivia's voice is so angelic. Great way to start the finale episode with a song as deep as this. But I loved what they did with Maya this season. All that she was going through was just so realistic and you felt it. Olivia was FANTASTIC in portraying a teen going through depression. Excited to see where she goes from here and see her recovery process. It will be a beautiful thing when she comes out on top. Can't wait to see that.

Degrassi is probably one of the most realistic and best TV shows of all times..It deals with serious topics such as depression and suicide yet doesn’t romanticize them and shows just how ugly and unsuspecting real life can become. If you think about it, it makes sense. She never really grieved during her time at Degrassi. Grade 9, her boyfriend commits suicide, Grade 10, her band mate Adam dies texting and driving and Grade 11 the bus crash got to her hard seeing her best friend Tristan in a coma which triggered her depression and made her feel guilty for being alive. She blamed herself for people dying around her because she exists. She's actually been through a lot. This season was incredible and Maya has changed a lot and she finally broke from her feelings of everything that she built up.

I just realized while watching this, Maya"s entire time on the show has had her surrounded by death. Katie overdosed in season 11(but survived, obviously), of course, there was Cam in season 12, which took her two season to get over, then Adam(they were in WhisperHug together) in season 13. Then her arc with Zig, she fought so hard to protect him from the gang, then she had to relive everything with Cam through Miles. It finally seemed like things were getting better when she and Zig finally got together, then he broke her heart. Then, when it looked like they might be able to at least be friends again, the bus crash happened. And while on the surface, Mayas was lucky to survive, she didn't come out of it unscathed. While likely not planned that far back, if you watch from her first appearance to this, it seems like this was always the way things would go.

This song was such a punch to the gut when I watched the episode for the first time; the intention was so clear and her happiness about finally being able to end her own pain broke my heart. I honestly didn't like Maya's character when she was first introduced but after these last few seasons, she's become my favorite. I couldn't help but feel like Maya was being lowkey extra this season. Like i legitimately just wanted her to sit down, get some help, and chill out. But, I understand that people don't handle trauma the same and try to cope in different ways so, they don't always feel so consumed by it. It made me kind of emotional to see her spiraling down and down just like Cam. I understand their situations and breaking points were different. But, to see her arrive at that decision just like he did. God, it was absolutely heart wrenching.

I honestly just think she needs to just say how she feels it's clear the bus crash was the result of this state she's in and then following that came the stress of having to go to university and of course since her dream is to sing there's the added stress of juggling those things, but the bus crash was the trigger Of course a more extreme way to get her to stop romanticizing death would be to put her back into the same situation as that crash and maybe then she'd actually have the will to live again especially if there were other people around that need help
