I always liked Maya. Yeah she made stupid decisions in Seasons 13 and 14 (but that was mostly because of bad writing) but I really liked her in Next Class, especially Seasons 3 and 4.

as the audience, we knew Yael's red hair was actually a wig. but the moment when she pulled it off, Degrassi broke the fourth wall. impressive stuff. im really happy that Degrassi is addressing things like genderqueer identities. they did this right; it is very heart-warming to be a fan of a show that displayssuch deep, yet realistic, support of the social behaviorisms that go on around us everyday.

Don't leave us Maya I'm gonna miss your amazing voice and incredible songs soooooo much but I'm happy your off to Cali after going through so much and we got to see you smile in the closing moments of the season. UGH I love this song so much. The moment Maya started playing the piano I was like yep it's a favorite. Just completely AWESTRUCK every single time. This song just touches you deeply. I floated on every lyric and YAY another guest appearance from Craig. Always a pleasure when alums come back for special occasions. In regards to Yael, I LOVE the character arc. First time Degrassi is touching on the topic of being genderfluid and I'm all for it. I will be rooting for Yael and wondering who will be the potential bae and I have a feeling I will ship it hard lol. I also enjoy how Lola is becoming a rising star on the show. Her helping all her friends with all the problems they were having was honestly perfect. Amanda does a great job and I'm just as excited to see where Lola's new relationship with Saad will go in S5.

Loved Yael’s transformation. It’s nice to see gender fluid characters making their way into media. But can we also talk about Craig looking at Maya as she performed? The two characters were so like on the show, channeling their emotions into their music. The way he looked at her is like he sees himself when he was at Degrassi and it almost feels full circle for him to find her at his Alma mater.
