When you showed the part about constraints, is that an effective way to style a ponytail? Only you would take not the end points but in the middle, taper them down and use a constraint to hold together and let the rest part of the hair flow dynamically, right? I've gone through so many things with polygon hair, nhair, xgen. Kinda frustrating at first when you don't know the right technique. Thank you in advance, you have a lot of helpful videos.

nHair is awesome. Fanstatic video. Daryl what the best way to reduce popping or jitter? Is it generally collisions or damping? Thanks again.

Thanks! I've used many of nhair tools and I *still* find it very hard to use, I do exactly as most tutorials say (with my designs) but no matter how much I tweak, the hair never looks or behaves the way I want to (I either struggle trying to make it look real by filling *all* bald spots I find or make the hair move the way it's supposed to)... So, the more tutorials, the better lol.

daryl obert Great! I look forward to it! Just a quick question regarding the Space Scale attribute. I was told to set the Space Scale to 0.01 because "Maya works in cm as default, whereas the nucleus solves in metres by default". Does the nucleus still solve in metres by default? My problem is, I noticed you set your scale to 0.1/0.175 but when I set mine to 0.1, the hair seems to 'float' a lot more. I set mine to 0.01 and now it looks like Anime style hair. I will keep tweaking it until I am happy, for now, after watching your video, I think I need to double the number of CVs per curve :) vimeo.com/111346687
@darylobert10 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct it works in meters. So if my dude was real world scale 180 unites(centimeters) tall I would have set the value .001 But in my file the dude was small, lets just say he is 18 unites or 10x smaller. This is why I would only set the scale .1 instead of .01 in my file. This makes the solver behave like he is now 180 unites tall

hi daryl and thx for ur great tutorials. i do hair for cg characters in animation and fx films but i really cant get nice hairstyles from nhair. to get what i want i style in shave and haircut and then convert the curves into nhair curves but the main issue for me is that i cant get map to any of maya nhair properties like Shave and haircut.for example one of the key to get the best look is to map the hair thickness or get it some map for curl or twist but i cant do this stuff in maya nhair. do we have any sollution for these problems in nhair(even tricky ones) or i should go for Shave and haircut or XGEN?i really like to do it just with nhair but i will defenetly go for XGEN as soon as possible.Thx

Hey Daryl. Awesome feature packed tutorial. Is there a way to change the "Points per Hair" after the sim or even the U and V count? Just did my first hair sim on a keyframe face rig. It's great to come back to these tutorial now since I can gain more familiarity with the system. Great fast workflows to make edits. Thanks.

hi, thanks for great tutorial. but when I create just nurbs first (like you do), then assign hair system , hair does not take curve's shape. it just appears straight and the changes I do to curves doesnt affect hair. what should I do?

Realistically you have some of the most detailed and professional videos on youtube about Maya, so it's a wonder why you're not vastly more popular But anyway, i am vastly dependent on learning everything i know about the program from online sources as my professor seems to have far less answers to issues you seem to answer almost simply. Anyways, I do have a few questions i'd like to ask. Of course you don't need to make a video about it, however it is worth noting that it's vital i have solutions answered. 1) What would be the best way to go about creating fur for a full character? I know maya has a fur tool, though it is UV based and tends to be uneven on a full-body model, and also is not viewable in the viewport like nHair and xGen. Xgen has an issue with my computer (or perhaps version on maya) in which is constantly crashes the program, sometime upon launching, sometimes after working for a bit, but work with it after 15-odd hours has proven inconclusive and i have yet to find a suitable work-around that would animate with my character's rig and blend shapes. (keep in mind it takes my computer 2-3 minutes to render a simple frame with a final gather set to 50) 2) What would be the best character modeling method, especially in cases where the model is large (in terms of vertices at least), and has varying textures (face, torso, and rest of the body have 3 separate textures). Would it be preferred to keep these parts separate, or leave them combined? and if separated, how can i keep the border edges and verts together upon animating? 3) This one may be simple but ate at me for hours. If i make blend shapes for an object, but later make changes to the base object and need to delete all the history EXCEPT the blendshapes, is there a way to do that? Deleting non-deformer history doesn't seem to do anything because all the cuts and edge loops i would insert would retain their shape-control nodes. To be honest i have dozens of question that seem to pop-up on a working basis, and my professor seems to have few answers to any of them, further reasoning my belief that she isn't as knowledgable in the program as the school believes her to be. Anyways, your response would be HIGHLY appreciated by someone who is trying to learn as much as he can on his own means. :)

Hey Jean, Thanks for the nice comments, I hope that more people find my KZbin channel. 1. Classic Fur, XGen, and most things in 3D work best with nice clean geometry that has even poly sizes across the mesh. XGen crashing a lot sounds like driver issues to me, not sure what video card you have?. 2-3 minutes a frame is very quick, production frames you see on TV and Films take much longer! 2. Both will work, the choice of what way to go depends on a lot on the project. In general I would go with one mesh and layout the UVs to work with it. If you do keep the model as separate pieces all you need to do is make sure the verts that are on the boarders have the same weights. The Voxel binding will give you a good starting point. 3. I will do a Maya Monday post with some Blend Shape tips next week best d

daryl obert My macbook has an amd radeon 6750m GPU. i sure hope it isn't a GPU issue because i just had to replace my old computer because it's GPU went kaput. And thanks for the advice, i'll have to look into voxel binding, and i look forward to next monday. :)

I need HELP here. I am trying to add nHair to a Pencil brush that is animated. 1) When i hit Play, the Brush loses his volume style and goes all way down relaxed like a very long hair. How can i stop that, how can i maintain his Brush volume style from the start all the way of the animation??? I only want the hair to have any motion with collision and a little bit on the movement BUT, Not to much movement.. If you know what i mean... I have tried with a lot of settings and it always moves like crazy on start. It never keeps his volume even with Start Curve Attract setting at 1.0 There must be something i am setting wrong :(

Not sure what I could be doing wrong but the Twist Tracker (TT) model when on crashes my entire i7 based computer, not just Maya. With TT on and running interactive playback, when you stop the playback then rewind back to first frame, that's all she wrote, complete lockup. I've recreated this several times painfully. In your video you stopped just short of that step. I found that setting twist and compression resistance parameters to higher values and setting bend links to a value greater than zero, 5 or even 10, you get what you would have expected out of the new TT feature. Hair mass setting and nucleus scale setting seems to have an effect as well to enable curls to not straighten out like spaghetti. FYI.
@artspam9 жыл бұрын
+legar83 I found that twist tracking can become unstable and use 100% of system RAM when you have only 1 angle > 90 degrees somewhere in your start curves. That could be the issue.
