Excellent stuff mate, subbed. Warning! In Maya 2017 extrude face along curve works only if you use "temporary" component mode selection via the interface. It won't work if you have entered component mode through F-keys.

Hi Michael - I have a question regarding extruding a face along a curve. There is one step there that puzzles me. If one selects an object containing face to extruce switching to object mode using marking menu next - still using marking menu - switches to component mode to select face to extrude and then keeping shift pressed selects the curve all works great. Now when trying to do the same using keyboard shortcuts to switch between component and object mode (F8 and F11) one cannot select the curve while face was selected. So same steps: F8 to switch to object mode and one selects object, then F11 and select face then press shift and try to select a curve - not going to happen. WHY? Aren't those keyboard shortcuts F8, F9, F11, F12 equivalents of respectively object, vert, edge, face modes? I use them all the time to switch modes yet here extrusion cannot be done unless marking menu is used to switch between modes. BTW - Maya 2017 sp 5. Thank you in advance.
