I was lucky enough to see Wings Over America when it was in Denver. And the icing on the cake was that Paul and Linda autographed a watercolor painting that i did of them. Not only their signatures, but they took the time to add doodles to it. One of the best days of my life! I even made the front page of my local hometown paper.

This song was written byPaul McCartney about his wife Linda McCartney, who died of cancer after 29 years of marriage. Their daughter Stella McCartney, the fashion designer, plays this song at the end her runway shows in memory of her mother and for her father who is usually in the front row. So very touching. Pass the tissues...😓

On the Beatles song "Oh darling", Paul purposely strained his vocal chords to get the "raspy" sound. On this song, its because it was recorded towards the end of a massive world tour (I went to the show in Los Angeles). They had done like 50 shows before the one recorded for Wings Over America.

Great time keeper; true. I particularly like his Ringoisms. Lennon was a big fan too. Ringoisms as Lennon called them refers to Ringo's nonchalant way of stating something supposedly obvious in an odd phrasing. More than a few Ringoisms became song titles, such as 'A hard days night' and 'Tomorrow never knows'.

I went to literally hundreds of concerts all through the 70s, but this exact concert (Seattle, King Dome) is one of three greatest I ever witnessed (along with Stones in 1972 and The Who in 1975/76, who played here at both the beginning and end of their tour). A lot of that was probably the emotional impact of standing 20 feet from Paul McCartney, but Wings Over America proves it was an amazing show.

Okay, the story about "Twist and Shout" is off a bit. The fact is, singing that song tore up Lennon's voice so badly that when they performed that song, they always left that song for the last one, because Lennon couldn't sing after that.
@LeChaunce
@LeChaunce 3 жыл бұрын
Well, and the specific recording that closes out the Please Please Me album was saved at the end of the session exactly because of what Alex said -- he'd come into the studio with a head cold and had been sucking on cough drops the entire day. The song on the album they recorded right before "Twist And Shout" was their cover of the Shirelle's "Baby It's You", and you can hear John's raspiness on that vocal as well, which gives that song a great character. That rasp is not as prominent in his lead vocals on "Anna", which was recorded during the afternoon session (they took a dinner break and then recorded Ringo's version of "Boys" and George's version of "Chains", likely to give John's voice a rest).

Paul was at his vocal peak during the Wings era. This song was actually mid-concert if memory serves correctly. The Wings Over America tour is top 10 of any era IMO. You boys need to hit some of Paul’s bangers from this tour. The opening of Venus & Mars/Rock Show/ Jet is a MUST! This is how he opened the concerts then. If you want to hit the studio version first I would recommend “Jet“ from the Band on the Run album which was the Wings best. Joe English was the drummer, very talented including vocals. Jimmy McCullough on lead guitar. He was fantastic and tragically died from a drug overdose not long after this tour.

The core of Wings was Paul, Linda, and Denny Lane. Denny was in the Moody Blues and sang the hit song, GO NOW. I was lucky enough to see Denny perform in Woodstock, New York with his band and they played the entire Abbey Road album from start to finish. I got to shake his hand as he was going out the door at the end of the concert. My brush with The Beatles and The Moody Blues.

In the midst of The Beatles hysteria, mid 60s,the song that stood out to me, more than any other was Go Now. When I heard Laine was joining Wings I was hoping for some outrageous blues compositions from the duo but it never happened.

Was incredibly lucky to see Paul on his 1989 tour. He played more than 2 Beatles songs live for the first time since they broke up. Actually he played between 15 to 17 BEATLES SONGS throughout the tour. More than amazed and still my favorite concert of all time.

That was when the Japanese authorities discovered that the fingerprints of the man currently playing the role of Paul McCartney did not match those of original Paul from the early 1960's, and the UK government was forced to intervene behind the scenes as a matter of national security.

Since you are leaving a comment about Linda and Paul never being separated, these guys might not know that she died of breast cancer a number of years ago. Their relationship really seemed like a very solid love story. No matter how much some of the fans loved to blame both Linda and Yoko for having a role in breaking up the Beatles (something I don’t ascribe to) both of those relationships seemed really deep. So sad that Paul lost Linda and Yoko lost John.

That Wings Over America album has a special meaning for me. Not only was it my big Christmas present in 1976 but I actually sing back-up on HEY JUDE! All the cuts were from various different venues and the version of HEY JUDE they used was from Wings' concert in Cincinnati, where I was at! Paul asks everyone to sing along...and I did! OK...since you asked for live versions, you might want to start with KATMANDU from ‘Live’ Bullet/Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. From Wikipedia: ‘Live’ Bullet is a live album by American rock band Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, released in April 1976. It was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, during the heyday of that arena's time as an important rock concert venue. The album is credited, along with Night Moves, with launching Seger's mainstream popularity.
