Hi John and Jodi..... Mayberry Trading Post! Wow! Such a beautiful, peaceful, and serene place with a lot of real history everywhere that is still alive. I could spend a long time inside that store, browsing through its fabulous inventory, buying things, and enjoying a conversation with Pam and her daughter, Misty....as I am sure that I can learn a lot from both of them. Pam and Misty have beautiful personalities that are genuine and kind, and I really appreciate and admire how Pam makes clear how much her family (past and present) means to her and how she wants to keep that store in the family. Awesome! What she has done with that store inside and outside is totally amazing! Yes, "she has turned the lights back on in Mayberry!" That place is definitely on my bucket list to visit! As for Mayberry, I can believe Andy Griffith purposely recognized Mayberry Creek, VA----now Meadows of Dan, Va (where his grandparents lived and he spent a lot of time) as the name of the fictional town of Mayberry on The Andy Griffith Show. That most likely was his way of paying homage to his grandparents and a beautiful place that was special and dear to him greatly. He also ensured that Mount Airy, NC (the town he grew up in), was recognized in the show as Mount Pilot (a larger town) in close proximity to the smaller Mayberry; just like the real Mayberry Creek/ Meadows of Dan, VA (a smaller town) is in close proximity to Mount Airy, NC (a larger town). This makes total sense to me, and I'm sure it is very accurate! I really enjoyed this video. GOD bless!

Enjoyed the video interview / tour with Pam and Misty at the Mayberry Trading Post. Your just across the state line to the county we live in John, which is Surry County, Mt Airy, Pilot Mountain, Dobson and Elkin. I don't believe I remember Misty mentioning Nancy's Candy Company which is also in Meadows of Dan. We've got to check out this store. Thanks for the video. You and Jodie take care and God bless.

We have visited this store several times over the years. In previous years we noticed it had become run down. When we visited this past May, 2023, we were so happy to find it has new owners and to see all they have done to the store. It’s a great place to visit. It’s one of our favorite stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We love it here. Anyone traveling the parkway needs to stop here. I’m so happy to see you do this video on this historic store. Hopefully, this will bring in lots of business for them. We plan to visit again in October. It’s beautiful here in the fall. Great video!!

Everything you see online says John Dee Griffith (Andys Grandfather) married to Sallie Taylor was born and lived in Mt.Airy NC so this is quite confusing but I believe it to be based in Va no doubt about that I wish the writers of history would correct there stories. What a great video and documentation you did here John.

@pamfrazier9154 Жыл бұрын
Someone asked where Mayberry got its name. I can’t find the question now so I’ll answer here in hopes that they see it. Frances Maybury of Sussex County England came to the US in 1679. A descendent of his, Isaac Mabry obtained a land grant for 183 acres in 1792. This included Mayberry creek named in honor of Isaac Maybry. Variations of the names were caused by individual spelling. Some tax records list property from early 1800’s to 1870 showed all different spellings for same area.

I’m not sure. It was named in the late 1700s

It got its name from a man named Isaac Mabry who got a land grant in 1792 of 183 acres near Robertson Creek. The name of the creek was changed to Mayberry Creek in honor of Isaac. Mayberry, Va. grew from that.
