Andy was my great uncle, spent many days with him back in 1965 & 66 in Mt. Airy. Even went to So. Cal to watch the show be filmed. Yes Andy was just like he was on tv. Very caring and considerate. Rest in peace with my great uncle Andy. You'er now home with God!

Life was never like that. It's like you forgot women were treated like crap and so were black people. Kids got beat often and abused. All those shows were FAKE life and most people knew that. Hell, even in the 80s the same thing. Fake life sitcoms. It wasn't until Married with Children came along that it reminded you of how life really was in a family. It was a bit over the top but more real than the Andy Griffith show.

Oh yes...I grew up in NW Arkansas. I still live about 25 miles from where I grew up at. BUT, I am 55 now and back in my days as a kid, we never locked our house when we went to the store. No one did. No one came in and took ANYTHING. It was a pretty good day back then. I had moved away for about 3 years and came back in 1992 when my dad passed away. I was at my home where I grew up in and mom and dad always lived there. I told mom I was going to go take a walk to clear my head. (This was a week after my dad had died.) I remember that I didn't walk far and turned around and came back home. I remember overwhelming fear. This wasn't the same place it used to be. Nothing happened, but the sounds and just this thick feeling of darkness overwhelmed me. My times had changed. Not just in the few years I was gone. I was 28 at the time and hadn't walked the neighborhood in probably 12 years. The good old days were clearly gone in the 80's.

One of the few crisp memories I still have of my mother. My brother and sister would go to school, then we would watch The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy together with lunch. I may have to go here. It's not far from where I'm moving to.

It was really interesting to see how a tourist views the town! I live here and the squad car tours, down town, and all the "Mayberry" brandings are just part of life. Really loved to seeing the excitement it brings to those who don't see everything as the norm.😊

The Mount Airie electric company has come to our town of Livingston Texas several times after hurricanes and other natural disasters to help restore power. They are really great people and we are glad to have them. They are very proud of the show, and tell us all about it. I love the pride they have of their town.

That was nice to see. The cells need to be decorated like a nice cozy bedroom like it was on the show. I watch four episodes of the show every night. I can watch it over and over it’s that good. Better than the trashy shows of today.

Nice folks in Mt. Airy. From 87 to 2008, selling auto body shop products, Mt. Airy was on my monthly route. Back then that small town had 5 auto parts stores. Stayed at the Mayberry Motor Inn, Andy's police car and old Ford pick-up parked out front. Great little town!

This is like sacred walking through Andy Griffith's real life home where he grew up at. You said his parents left in '66, where did they go? Guess I can Google it. You doing a tour of this home brought back memories of my own childhood. Unfortunately both the homes are no longer around due to horrible fires. But the memories still lives on. Thanks so much for the tour. Enj♥️y your tours. 😍😘🎈

absolutely love the Andy Griffith Show, really miss that type of clean wholesome comedy. even Andy's Matlock show had good comedy in it. sweet tea with your lunch, nice choice. you actually got to spend the night in Andy's childhood home, so cool! really wonder what went through his head when he stayed there as a guest, but what's fascinating are the artifacts (replicas?) throughout the home. LMAO at whisper " i thought Barney was out there"!!!! it's way worth the money to stay there just because it comes with the complete series you can enjoy without interruption. loved the rain during this vid. thnx for bringing us along!

The Wife and I was just a few weeks ago did the tour, didn't stay at the home, since we live just 25 miles from there, but always wanted to do the tour. Barney's is another good place to eat at. We drove down a couple of days before you posted this just to have some lunch and do some early Christmas shopping. Next time, If ever you are in the area, feel free to contact us if you want to save a buck or two and stay with us, we can give you a tour of the Triad area, Hight Point, Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC. Until next time!

I grew up in WS. It was a great place to live in.I left when I was 21years old.I moved to downtown Atlanta. Major cultural shock. I have lived in a lot of major cities and in different Countries.I use to go back often. I have lost my Southern accent for the most part. I admit I do miss the slower pace. WS is now a medical town not a tobacco town.I was the only one who left from my family or freinds. Food is fantastic. The BBQ is out of this world. Old Salem is a good tour. A tip is try Speedys BBQ on the out skirts of WS or Bibs in downtown WS. Greensboro is more progressive but a good day trip. High Point is a nice laid back place. And Mt Airy is really cool. Love how they really went into developing the Andy theme. I remember climbing Pilot Mountain as a child. Called Mt Pilot in the show. They had a white ladder steps up the side. No way this could happen today. Unbelievably dangerous. I can't believe my parents let me do it. IMHO this would be a great vacation.
