Maybrook Detour

on June 10th of 2021, the Housatonic RR NX-10 derailed in Danbury CT. During the clean up process, the NX-10 would have to use the unused siding in order to get to Oak RIdge

People watching this video would NEVER believe that this was once the main line of the New Haven, with lots and LOTS of traffic. This was the direct route to Maybrook yard and everything went through Maybrook yard. PRR made sure they killed this line after they merged NH into themselves.

Metro North has filed to abandon the entire line in the state of NY. One of regional railroads with trackage rights is fighting it but it’s all excepted within Putnam and Dutchess.

They are definitely gonna bring the Maybrook Connecticut Putnam railroad line and the Harlem putmam Bruster North and the Hudson Putnam line. Even though they have the Putnam trailer over there wich is 1000% true. However they are definitely planning to bring all three private lines back wich is the old Putnam railroad lines rails trailers and back to rails again and they are planning big.

There has been no official documents for reactivation of the Maybrook line. The only grant approved is the $2 million environmental study on the section between Southeast and Danbury, CT. It’s a study. That does not mean the line will be reactivated

This is a very awesome video. I am using my imagination. What if the New Haven did not merge with the Penn Central. But had been reborn. If the New York Central and New Haven had merged with the Norfolk and Western. The New Haven would be reborn as the Providence,Worcester,New Haven and Jersey Central.

Well if it was that way. The trails that sit either on or beside the tracks of the Maybrook would’ve never existed, Maybrook yard would still see traffic. And business in Connecticut would be better

The detour is using the inactive siding to navigate around the derailment sight to Oak Ridge.

...only for storing Cars for Oak Ridge. The only part that is deemed “active” is from Brookfield Junction to the Bridge crossing the still river. The only other part that is “active” is portion the between the crossover by Wildman st and no further than the White St Crossing. Other than those two small portions of track its very well unused.

You would think that company would have a employee follow in vehicle to activate that crossing gate and flag the other crossing, just saying

There’s really no point in doing so. International Dr is protected by a Circuit. And the only time they crossover Wildman st into Danbury yard is when they have to run around their train (usually when they can’t roll the train at Berkshire Junction) or when they’re handling stored Oak Ridge cars. Which isn’t often. P&W’s seasonal CT-2 shouldn’t have a hard time at Wildman St either, since they usually arrive in Danbury around Midnight
