Necro is right, the story was bound to be made into a movie sooner or later, it's just too fascinating and weird to not do it. He's also right that it's a sad story - how could it not be the way it ended up? Whether or not the portrayal of characters or events is truthful and realistic - who's to say but the people who were there? I really liked the movie as what it is, but then I never expected it to be a 100% truthful account. I do agree, though, that they should have brought on Necrobutcher as a script consultant to get as close to the truth as possible (if in fact his account of things would have been the truth).

Because of this movie, I can say I may have become a Mayhem fan. Not because of the movie, but by doing my own research on the events of the band. Going over interviews (like this one and one Necro did with Loudwire), reviewing the history of the band through a very well put together 30 minute video (much better than Lords of Chaos) as well as interviews from different books (not Lords of Chaos, fuck that book). Then ultimately buying the Out From the Dark Demo and the Live in Leipzig album to hear Pelle and Øystein myself. After all that and finally watching the movie (its shit) I can say I maybe a fan of Mayhem.
@rainy71064 жыл бұрын
The problem with the movie is they took it too far with the “humor.” Yes there were immature and cringey aspects of the black metal scene as there are with any but, for the most part there was some really brutal and serious shit going on. They could have maintained some of the humor while also keeping the vibe more towards the middle of funny and serious. It would have gave the movie a really uneasy vibe to it and would have encapsulated the raw energy of that scene. It’s like if you tried to make punks out to be a bunch of confused kids by completely ignoring the drug-culture and politics within those scenes. It just comes off as the director being bullied by that group of people in the past and now coming for his revenge with a shitty dark comedy.
@AtrocityEquine01 Жыл бұрын
While I did enjoy the movie for that reason, I do feel that it focused way too much on the "lel edgy violent scene" than the influence the scene had on it's members. Like it didn't even bother going into how bands like Emperor or Darkthrone became inspired by Mayhem to become black metal. Plus in context, it pretty much tried to paint this image of Euronymous being someone way over his head, which while that part was true, it had been said that Euronymous got caught way too deep in the persona he built.

You can actually see Nercobutcher clearer still feels the effects of the deaths of "Dead and Euronymous" as he drifts in a small moments as he talks about it. He is right the producers should have reached out to the band members who were there. The only thing the movie kinda did was pay homage to both Dead & Euronymous. That's all it did!
