Corey Taylor (frontman for Slipknot and Stone Sour, NY Times bestselling author) opens up about his early drug and alcohol addiction and how he makes sense of his extrasensory observations with the paranormal. He discusses his difficult childhood, his process of discovering music and writing as an outlet, and his journey toward sobriety. Corey explains the depression he faced after suffering a severe spinal cord injury from a stage dive, using therapy to find healthier ways to parent, and how he was able to quit smoking cigarettes. He shares his intense experiences with paranormal intelligent energy and how he makes sense of the phenomena. Mayim breaks down the scientific understanding of Chi energy and its important role in medical treatment.

Just found this show because of the Corey Taylor interview. And it's actually one of the best interviews I've actually seen about Corey where they weren't just all about his music and actually understanding him as a person. Also to anyone who has never seen slipknot live, it's freaking amazing!!

I've been a huge Slipknot/Stone Sour/Corey Taylor fan since the first time I heard Slipknot (25 years). Up until a year ago I'd never seen them live. In the past year I've seen them 3 times... And each time has been an amazing surreal experience for me. There's soooo much going on while they're performing!

I knew Corey briefly one summer through my sisters boyfriend (at the time), summer of 1993 I’m guessing. I grew up in Indianola about 15 mins South of Des Moines. I remember a long hair, chain smoker who always said “someday I’m (meaning Corey) going to be famous”. Interesting to hear this perspective years later. He played a small dive bar South of the airport. And prob what I remember most was his voice, both talking and singing. My fav song he would sing is She talks to angels while playing guitar. Super glad to see him doing so well❤ #coreytaylor

@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle In a lot of peoples opinion, absolutely. He has a vocal range of 5 and a half octaves. The only Rock/Metal singer with a higher one is Mike Patton at 6 octaves. He's been the front man for the number 1 Metal band in the world for the past 20+ years, a second platinum selling band, four New York Time's Best Sellers, been in several movies and he's constantly asked to do guest vocals on everybody else's records. All accomplished by a poor kid from middle of nowhere Iowa. If that isn't a legend, I don't know what is?

@@ojmcclanahan689 no one is saying he is not a good vocalist, I would love to hear those recordings with Velvet Revolver, but there are vocalists who have that sort of range and they are not legends. I believe Axl Rose is also 5 and half ....When did Corey front Metallica? I must have missed that, i thought he was in slipknot who is nuber 3 behind Maiden and Metallica. The two bands who can sell out Stadiums across the Globe. Bruce Dickinson is best selling author, pilot, owns an aviaton company and oh ya was an olympic fencer...that is legendary. He is not constantly being asked, not by established rock and metal bands. I respect him rejecting Bb Gun Kelly Corey Taylor is not a household name yet

My brother was killed suddenly during a work accident. I told stories about our life together for 6 hours to coworkers. I remember telling one coworker…this is NOT my memory. I’ve never heard this story before. That night when my other brother called me home and couldn’t tell me the reason…I told him that the brother was in a coma or dead. Tell me which. He said dead and asked how I knew. I told him that he was out of his body and with me for the last 6 hours. I knew those were the only 2 choices where his physical body would not need his energy with it. The energy is real and some of us are sensitive!! For the person who blamed the sensitivity on drugs/alcohol…I don’t do either.

I just literally jumped off my couch at 39.27, because he just described my school experience with perfect accuracy! I was the only one in my grade that could read in kindergarten, read over a hundred books in third grade, narrated book recordings for other kids in fifth grade, then refused to do homework while acing every test they could throw at me from grades six through nine. Nearly flunked out completely as a sophomore, ended up in a special program for at-risk kids, then graduated a semester early with a 4.0. I also won a nationwide writing contest in sixth grade. The common core system nearly threw me away and now I'm a Triple Nine member. Yup, figure that one out.

I've been a Slipknot and Corey fan for about 15 years, and this is easily one of the best of his interviews that I have seen. There is something about Mayim interviewing him, coming from an angle where she knows a bit less about his music career, where the questions are different from the usual ones (which usually centre around the music). It makes for more interesting answers. Great job both Mayim and Corey for not being afraid to deep dive on this one.

Absolutely loved hearing Jonathan talk about energies and seeing Mayim's visceral reaction to just thinking about ghosts. I had a terrible phobia of ghosts for about 20 years. A true phobia, in that I knew deeply there was nothing to fear, but I could not shake it. As soon as I began my studies of witchcraft, that fear disappeared. Just learning about the energies around us all released it for me. And I am forever grateful.

I came across your podcast from a teeny tiny article on a Scottish newspapers website and I probably shouldn't have started with a Corey Taylor interview because im reluctant now that others wont be so good! That was amazing! I'm not a 'spiritual' person in any sense of the word and i came for the science and mental health focus. But I've known a lot of people throughout my life who are and I've always been fascinated by their experiences and perception of this world (my own duality you could say). I've been a Corey fan since i came across Slipknot in my very early twenties and to hear him speak in such an honest, open-minded and articulate way about his life accentuates the weird feeling that i saw something 'special' in him, I'm not a fanatical person so that feeling was always strange to me. So, the interview has opened my mind a bit to look to understand more about what drives emotional attraction and sociality (that's my field, im an animal behaviorist) in ways maybe the science can only partially explain! Could it be just a weird concoction of dopamine, oxytocin and vasopressin? Or is there an undiscovered additive or resonance that can be perceived even just on a visual or auditory level i.e. when the subject cannot be experienced in any other way (olfactory or tactual) because theyre on tv or in songs. I'm also really impressed by you guys and your interviewing style, you can see the admiration you have for each other and you really complement one another without coming across as 'fake' for the camera like you see in a lot of interviewing duo's. Looking forward to watching more

I'm glad that you spoke to him about his paranormal experiences, even though it freaked you out. It's frustrating that most people dismiss these experiences and ridicule people that have them. There are definitely some people who lie about or fake paranormal activity, but there are many people who are very credible who have these experiences and it's crazy to me that their experiences are so easily dismissed but yet if these people were giving testimony in a criminal case no one would question what they say. There are so many things we can't explain yet and I think yet is the key word. There are things in the past that people couldn't explain that we now have proof of and people thought these ideas were crazy back then. We haven't yet figured out what paranormal activity actually is or where it comes from but I think one day we will be able to, especially if we put serious scientific research and study into it.

BTW, that house Corey talked about being haunted, is in an area of DesMoines where there are many mansions. I drove for Uber a few years back, and gave a couple a ride to that exact house. The passenger's parent's had bought the house from CT. Hearing his haunted story, makes me want to get hold of these people to see if they have had any paranormal experiences.

Mr. CMFT needs to start a horror themed podcast about his ghost stories and other metal/rock musicians ghost stories. Or just any podcast. Need more from him just telling stories. He's just so F'NG GOOD at it.

Terrific. Thank you three, so much. Subtle joy, genius, love, bravery, and like William Blake said it, “the Divine Imagination.”

Love that you had Corey on! This little metalhead is super thrilled. Another great interview would be Jonathan Davis of KoRn or Brian Welch (Head) from KoRn too.

I love this man! He's so down to earth, funny and smart. He has a laugh that belongs in a haunted house! His book about paranormal is great by the way, truly terrifying at some points!

I have been listening to most of your podcasts, so many are wonderful- Will Weaton is still my favorite... As a fan of your show and of Metal, It makes me so happy that you have someone like CT on. I am just happy that even though his band is widely known, Having someone like him on in context of your other guests is wonderful! He is very articulate about his being, though you did not talk about it, I am almost certain that he is able to talk this due to being in therapy. one can just tell that someone has been through therapy by the way they are able to talk honestly about themselves . thank you so much for doing this segment. Mayim !

Thank you for bringing Corey on! He is a truly awesome human being. I can name many people in several Slipknot videos (I'm from Iowa) and none of them have anything negative to say about Corey or any other member of the band. They are terrific examples of why we shouldn't judge people before actually getting to know them

Already having a difficult day. I have to keep repeating, "She's doing the best she can. She doesn't mean to keep doing things that set off BOTH my pain and anxiety disorders." My mom is diminishing mentally before my eyes just as I am trying to improve my own mental and physical health and I am overwhelmed. Family doesn't listen when I say I need help. I lack so many adulting skills, & I feel like I'm having to adult for 2 people at the moment. Not sure of the episode going in, but I'm sure I'll learn something that will help me like I do with every episode. Thank you both for the work you put into these podcasts. I am so happy for you that you have found each other.

Where to even start?? First, thank you for this show, especially the last part. Exploring the metaphysical is thankfully becoming more and more acceptable to discuss in many circles. I was thrust into a new way of living and thinking through a devastating personal experience. 5 years ago on 7-7-2017 my oldest child and only son, Paolo, was involved in a fatal car accident. There are no words to adequately explain the horror, pain, trauma, and utter complete upheaval of my very existence. Anyway, since that day I have been exploring the ins and outs of consciousness, spirit, spirituality etc, etc…….I could tell you so many stories of my son communicating with me. He shows me signs every day that he is still around. He loves to communicate through specific numbers and I see them constantly. Awakening to this concept and accepting it as real and that we do live on after our physical death, truly, is emotional. It’s so huge and kind of scary but in a beautiful way?? It’s so hard to explain. I cry too when I hear some of this kind of stuff. For me I feel an overwhelming awe in the amazing mystery of our lives here on Earth. We have so much more to explore and learn and I appreciate doing some of that with you two through this channel.

What timing! Right at the point of discussing intelligent energy and the disturbances possibly originating with certain people, everything froze and reset. Back up and running, and maybe now I'm paying closer attention.

i love corey taylor, as a person and performer. He is amazing in concert and his voice is just one of my favorite in the genre. he is so freaking intelligent and actually relaxing to listen to. and it was very fascinating his paranormal experiences because they mimic the ones my mom and i and my siblings have had before. Ive actually had paranormal experiences in most places that i have lived. Its good to hear someone so intellectual explaining his experience because he isnt like here trying to get recognition for his paranormal experiences. he doesnt need to. So the stories are very believable and relateable.
