My Dad passed away a couple of months ago, and I know that I'll think of him every time I watch the cooking scenes and the scenes with Julia Child in this movie. My father loved food, and he loved to eat. He was an incredible cook, and my parents have quite a collection of cookbooks, including some of Julia Child's. I recently went to the Smithsonian mainly to see Julia Child's kitchen in the exhibit on food in America. Seeing that kitchen made me think of my Dad. I miss you, Dad. ❤ And thank you, Julia Child, for changing American kitchens and food forever. Rest in peace. I wonder if Dad and Julia are having conversations about food and recipes right now. They're probably cooking up a storm in heaven. 🥰
It's actually really easy to poach an egg. Get a saucepan and fill it with about two inches of water, a few splashes of vinegar to make sure the whites don't float around, let it simmer (tiny bubbles not big), get a cold egg and put it in a small bowl and when it's simmering gently pour the egg in the water. Put a lid on it and wait 3 minutes and boom! Poached egg, bon apetit!
@metdelta13 жыл бұрын
That in itself sounds so hard. Scrambled eggs or omelette is the way to go for me. Plus you can always add cheese, veggies and other stuffs to your omelette to make it wholesome.

In Chinese cuisine, there's this wonderful meal called huo guo (hot pot) where you can poach an egg by cracking it into a basket spoon with a long handle to rest at the pots' edge while in the boiling water. You can easily make as many as you want without having to waste a lot of egg white. And here's something to know, a big wide pot is required for huo guo so you don't really need a pot that wide considering it's used for other food that can be put in like beef, fish balls, lamb, shrimp, and other food that would delight anyone who loves a nice comfy meal where in the end, you have noodles that you cook in the pot as well then add it into a bowl that contains your own personalized custom made sauce. This sauce that's personally made is used as a dipping sauce for the food cooked in the pot so make sure you make enough or you'll have to make more when its noodle time.

There's actually a poaching pan. It's a double boiler, with dimples where you crack open your eggs. Fill water underneath to the line, place the frame and dimples over, plop a pat of butter into each dimple and close the lid. Let the water come to a steady boil, then remove the lid and season each dimple. Crack and drop one egg per dimple, close the lid and set a timer for 4min, 15secs. That gives you plenty of time to toast your bread and butter the slices. When the timer goes off, transfer the pan off the heat, remove the lid and quickly upend the frame over your toast. The eggs should be firmed outside, with runny yellows on the inside. Try sprinkling a little Old Bay over the eggs. It's unexpected, but gives it a warm bite.

It’s my personal favorite. I like to roast my garlic 🧄 for 90 min so it becomes jelly after being lathered in good quality olive oil. DO BUY OLIVE OIL IN A PLASTIC BOTTLE! Then when the garlic is ready, and you toast your bread in a pan, spread it on the baguette bread. Then slice minced tomato’s and basil on stop and if you want to try it put some burrata cheese on top, then drizzle a vinagreta sauce, olive oil and salt/pepper. Yum!❤

My favorite scene is when she messes up a dish and as she throws it in the trash she says “ the bitch lied”. Just because you have the recipe in a cookbook does not mean you will cook it right the first time! Everyone messes up! That is comforting while watching all these tv chefs making cooking look soooooooo easy.
@Circa1628Ай бұрын
Yeah I don't know what she's talking about 'It's such a comfort'. Sure, if the recipe goes well. But you can absolutely mess up a chocolate pie. The eggs can be overcooked, the Bay Marie could be set too high, you might not have enough heavy cream.

@@Veachie Exactly this! Eat, Pray, Love seemed so pretentious to me. I read the book and enjoyed it but the movie was so pretentious. It felt like her journey was cut short and the way she acted after her husband’s divorce is like such a white woman problem. I’m sure a lot of people do some soul searching after they go through a sad devastating breakup or divorce but the fact that she traveled to Italy and learned the language there to become quite proficient and then went through this whole spiritual journey in India and then in Indonesia, learning to love again and all it just seemed so extreme. Too much time that passed and so much pretentiousness. The spiritual shit was what annoyed me. Do all white people just up and go to India and take a vow of silence and think “Oh I’m cured of my depression for this 3 months?” And then what come back again whenever they feel down? 🙄
@triciareylara3 жыл бұрын
The "Eat" part in the movie is only the satisfying part. Although it poorly portrays Italian culture in general. And yes, too, it was pretentious and idealistic considering she broke up with the guy she met at Bali.
