Thank you Mayor Bloomberg. Thank you so much for your clear reasoning and resulting protection of civil liberties throughout this country. You are in a difficult situation. One I do not envy. The majority of Americans are in support of racism, bigotry, and sheer hatred. The definition of a strong leader is one who will resist mob rule solely in the interest of doing what is right. You have shown your character here and gained another enthusiastic supporter.

Great speech Mayor Bloomberg. I'm not of any religious affiliation but I do agree that people have the right to worship the way they want. You can not hold the general Islamic community responsible for the actions of the fanatical few. We as a nation need to show the fanatics that they can not destroy the ideals that make the USA a great country.

On his side Bloomberg has separation of church and state, private property laws, our long history of religious tolerance and the fact that the people of New York City get to decide how the site is used. On the other side of the argument is only misplaced emotion and political grandstanding. A stirring and convincing speech, and possibly one for the ages.

The only "utter disrespect" here is the utter disrespect of our Constitution, which clearly states that We The People should have freedom of religion. Anyone trying to deny that basic right is trying to rip another hole in our Constitution and is therefor un-American.

@Odenpiper Thank you Oden! Just some little vids for some people who want to see certain processes. Don't want anyone thinking that's final. Issue at hand. This is America. As long as we maintain separation of church and state, that is a non-issue. Shoebat has quite a sordid history. Despite his support for Israel, his claims have been rejected by Israeli authorities. The bank he claimed to have bombed denied it ever happening. He couldn't cite date or time of his alleged bombing...

(Continued.) Do people know that EVERY large foreign investment bank has a very high level Pak Gov. offical on the payroll whose sole job is to promote the interest of the foreign inestment bank. It was quasi official.How do i know? As a young investment banker i was asked to "choose" a high Gov officer for payment. I went there and met the Privatisation Minister (1997-1998). He said OK. I came out of the meeting told my family about it. They were shoked. I did some soul searching and quit.

@meemoonses These exceptions are in place to protect personal safety of citizens. The only problem with the mosque case is that there is no occurence happening at ground zero and it is merely a memorial. While it is still very disrespectful to place the mosque in this close proximity (it is 3 blocks away) I don't think it is causing any personal harm or direct insult to the family members of the 9/11 tragedy. Muslim workers in the towers died that day as well.

I'm a Libertarian. You are saying that we should just leave the ground zero as it is. A permanent scar on the city of New York and reminder of that tragic day that occurred nearly 10 years ago. Yes it has been almost that long since the attack. I think it is time for us to move on.

@HarperMatrix So my location immediately makes me think a certain way? Also I believe Social Security is purely redistribution of wealth and a government handout. It's very easy to spend and move around other people's money, but when it is your own you spend it very carefully. No one NEEDS social security, and we certainly didn't need it before it was instated. The government is slowly passing legislature so people don't have to do things themselves, I am opposed to this.

@meemoonses I don't see what the problem would be with allowing people to devour the remnents of family members. If the subjects being devoured are wholly willing and not being pressured to do this, there really shouldn;t be a problem. Yes, it's morbid and absolutely disgusting and I would never do it in a million years. But no one is being wronged in this situation and if all sides are willing participants than there will be no problem. This will never reach America though so don't worry.

That's what America is all about: freedom.

@Maserati7200 Could you please explain why it would be "utter disrespect", please. It is wrong to blame the entire Islamic Community for the crime of September 11, 2001. In fact, Muslims have served in the U.S. Military in the Wars of Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of these Muslim Serviceman died in the war as American Soldiers. In case you missed it, there was a Christian Clergyman standing behind Mayor Bloomberg in the video.

How come representatives of Islam are always saying they are for peace. Can someone please tell one time where Islam did something that resolved conflict? Created a peace treaty? Stopped an act of violence? Protested radical Islam? Showed something where they care for their community outside of being Muslim? Showed respect for their country they are living in, Europe, America?

@kimlene05 My vote counted just as much as your's did. Seeing as your choice of candidate didn't get elected and neither did mine, that puts us in the same boat now doesn't it. McCaine and Palin, now there's a group of winners! Atleast Bob Barr believes what he says. @MoveOnDotOrgg where it could be built isn't the point. The point is why it is being denied. I seriously doubt there would be a huge uproar if a catholic or protestant church was built there. It would probably be seen as a memorial church and there would be huge positive publicity for it. But, no, God forbid it be a Muslim church.
@LateralParabola
@LateralParabola 14 жыл бұрын
@meemoonses, true the court review will ultimately determine the whether the building can be built in the location or not. Personally, I believe there is no reason as to why it shouldn't be allowed. True, it is very insensitive for Muslim to do this, but at the same time it is not. The same way the majority of Christians do not agree with the Westboro Baptist church, most American muslims are against the ones who destroyed the WTC. Collectively putting all of them together is stereotyping.

Spain was under control of muslim populations for a very long time. The people controlling it were known as the Moors. Look it up. This is why there is a very large Muslim population in Spain.
