What a shame that this machine was discontinued because of poor engineering /use of inferior materials e.g. bearings. It seems so efficient. The drain pump and spin is so quiet and the tilted drum is innovative. Unbelievable it's working fine 20 years on! The part of the cycle where water is forced through the fabric (you call it filtration) is called "vortex wash" by Fisher & Paykel. I can truly understand the failure of the Neptune top loader, although the concept of the rotating discs is far superior to the low profile agitators in modern HE top loaders. If the discs reversed to tumble the load in the opposite direction, it might prevent the tanglinghat was such a problem Thanks for the great vid & your commentary.

I still have mine. Going on bearing set 4 I believe. I used the good bearings the last time and they're only lasting a few months longer. I think it's more the seal that is the issue. It's letting water get by and the seal drain I guess doesn't catch it all cause of the spinning motion. Water is getting slung all over the cavity and still getting into the bearings. Drain motor is making some noise and I should change it out. The mold on the seal, well I didn't know there was a recall, but not ready to pay $90 for a new one. Washing in warm mode broke some time ago. Must have been bad for years and we never caught it. Only put out Hot or Cold unless I keep hitting the buttons from Warm/Cold to Warm/Warm. Still, when it's running with new bearings, the fugger is pretty quite!!! I just hate having to pull it out to work on it. I guess it'll be the cheap bearing kit, cause either way, I'll still say the seal is the weak point and I don't think they sell a good one.

I have had 2 of these machines and one is currently in my garage taken apart because i cleaned the rubber gasket and now i have no idea where the one door latch is so thats all im missing to finish putting it together but man do they wash well. I gave it to a friend and his mom ended up returning it because she said it doesnt wash well and it turns out they would add little clothes and use a very cheap soap but blamed the washer . Anyways i took it back hoping to use it one of these days but without the latch i cant put the door together. Great video !

Check and see if you can't find the wiring diagram. There should be just a binary connector for the sensor that tells the machine that the switch is closed. I'd jump it if I could and voila.

I had this Maytag frontload. Mine had the full computer flat touch screen. This was a great washer. Better the the current HE Frontloads.

This unique USA machine actually needed minor upgrades including glass doors.If the build standard was like Miele i guess it would still have been a good seller.Part of history old Maytag is now.

i have had to replace my water inlet valve 3 times since august 2020, why does this part keep craping out? the first 2 times it wouldnt fill with water, now it is over flowing and i have to babysit and turn the water off /on manually until my new part comes. also since the last time we replaced the inlet valve everytime i run a cycle it adds time to it, a 'quck' cycle use to be like 30 min, now it ranges from 50-90 , when i run the spin cycle it seems to deduct time from the next wash cycle, if that makes sence. im looking for a new washer but need to keep using this until i find one, ive been washing what i can by hand to offset .

I feel like if they had time to actually engineer the thing it would have been a lot better but that goddamn EPA fucked everything up, same with the Whirlpool Calypso.

I actually put in very high quality stainless bearings so they'll likely live longer than me, and I went to a Gates dealer and got the equivalent belt but very heavy duty. I leave the door open so no mold can grow and if it does I run a cycle with pool shock. It's bulletproof now.

@@LarryMarston had nothing to do with the EPA. It had to do with the defective wax motors shorting out and frying circuit boards as well as people not knowing to leave the door open between washes leading to mold growth
