In today's video I pick up a super sketchy rat rod trike. I shorten it and attempt to swap a Seadoo 2 stroke Jetski motor in with 60HP. Things didn't work out too great for the trike so I had to switch it things up later in the video..

Vasily, just meeting that old machinist was probably worth the price; as you proceed into your fabrication skills, machine work will become more and more important. This man knows things that haven't been re imagined in our very IT world. He also knows a bunch about how to work around a problem to solve the bigger issues. You have made a friend, one you would do well to know for as long as he lives. IMHO; you have the future in your hands, but the future often needs the past to become successful. BTW, in it's passing, the trike you started with inspired you to do something better- you are already being inspired by the past, and doing better today!

Might sound like a good idea but your gonna have lots of tuning issues , Those mikuni sbn 38 carbs suck , if you don’t have experience tuning jetskis and understand how the carburetor rpms operates off pop off pressure. Better buy a pop off tester and a pack of jets and a set of t adjusting high and low screws ..I’d sell that junk seadoo engine and upgrade to a Yamaha 701 or a Kawasaki 750 jetski engine you can get them dirt cheap on eBay way more power and they weigh the same at the junk 587, how are you gonna make a closed loop water system that’s gonna keep it cool ?

Couple of small points your better off leaving the carb and oil injection since the rotary valve has oil in it, You will need to maintain that Oil or you will kill the rotary valve and shaft. Second you need to inject water into the exhaust pipe to make it work, so unless your planning on changing the pipe or having water injected to the stinger you might have some issues melting the exhaust pipe

Vasily, I would find a dual carb setup from a 787 or 720 seadoo engine WITH the intake runner. These Rotax engines have rotary valves in the intake which act like a reed valve and require lubrication from the oil system, if you delete the oil injection you will have to mantain oil within the rotary valve cavity and if it runs dry you will blow the motor up. Dual carbs from another seadoo motor will really open up the 580 and you can maintain the stock oil system by just adding an auxiliary oil tank from a jetski, fairly available and cheap online. Also you will have to modify the exhaust pipe and water routing to run a closed loop cooling system on this motor since they utilize water injection into the exhaust to keep it cold and not melt rubber hoses. You will also need to source a water pump since these motors do not have an integrated water pump like snowmobile motors. They utilize the jet pump to pump water from the body of water into the motor. Lot of work to get this right and not blow the motor in the process. You will also have to source a seadoo ECM which can be pricey since you will also need a matched Dess key

If I remember the seadoo rotax motors have a rotary setup on the oil injection. You can’t just delete the oil pump like normal 2 strokes. They make a kit that can delete it and still keep the rotary valve lubricated. Otherwise the crank will lock up. Just my 2 cents. Great video.

You have to keep an oil tank just for the drive if you go to premix other wise you’ll have big issues my friend! Make sure that rotary valve has no scores or scuffs in it, if it does it would seal properly and you’ll find it lol be dogy

Very COOL to see not just a 2 stroke of course, but one of the most overlooked engines available for usually the cost of removing an old eyesore from a yard! Lol, Well around the coast and lakes area's anyways, for all the desert dweller's watching and thinking WTF is a jet ski? It's like a snowmobile in the south LMAO! A dime a dozen up north and way under utilized in the go kart builds! For the package size, weight to HP ratios, these 2 strokes weather liquid cooled or air are the best bang for the HP buck! Something to be said for a engine that's self contained, small, light weight, able to take a beating and produce dumb numbers of HP for usually under $200 weather its a sled or ski. Can't wait to see your creativity come to life with this unique project man! Good luck and be safe! 3 wheels and almost 60hp could end up with a trip to the ER lol!!!😉

The trike did it's job, to inspire you to build it Better Faster Stronger. So it died doing a noble gesture. RIP Rat Trike.

Hey i hope you see this comment to save you the time im not trying to make you look dumb but i work on jetskis and know seadoos pretty well and you cant use that motor with a radiator as its made for a jet ski and why you ask because when the jetski sucks up water it goes into the head fills up the cylinder then into the exhaust then water box and out back into the water so the reason you cant use that motor is because the water exits through the exhaust and you cant make it where the water recirculates also it looks like your missing alot of parts unless he gave you a waterbox and ebox with all the internals so yeah before you put anymore time into it theres no way to make it work sadly unless you use a closed loop 4tec motor

The exhaust uses water injection you will have to figure out how not to melt the coupler on the expansion chamber

I wonder how you’re going to cool that motor when there’s no water pump the water gets pumped in by the jet pump on the ski and pushed out it doesn’t circulate thru out the motor

You think we could get a couple episodes in old dude's shop if he's into the idea? You have a chance to preserve history here.
