Thank you for filming this! Please don't get rid of this washer. This series of Maytag is among the best Maytags ever made. It may easily outlive anything new you could buy today just the way it is. If you refurbish it, it will easily outlive you too. Thanks again for sharing!

My mom purchased 2 of these back in the early 80s. I was maybe 8 or 9. My older sisters and I all learned how to do the laundry, and soon that was our responsibility. We always had 2 washers, and we had 2 dryers. It wasn't a novelty to me, but learned it was a luxury. These things lasted well into the mid-2000's. When I moved out I bought a used version of the mid 80s update version. Got the matching pair for around $200 in 97 when I moved to Maine. Move back home in 98 and hooked them up in mom's basement to run 2 sets again. One of her washers died and she no longer needed 2. I moved to Ohio, where I lived for 4 years, not a problem. Got promoted and moved back home, and in with mom in 2002, hooked them both up again in her basement. 2 years later (2004) I bought my home (a duplex) in 2004, about 10 minutes away from mom. Sadly the transmission died and was not worth the cost to repair in 2008. I asked the repair man if they had any used units. He said yest they have a newer verson of this Maytag model and he just repaired the timer. It cost $175. This thing is still going 14 years later. Sadly the dryer died in 2016 which I replaced with a facebook marketplace $60 Roper. That's lasted me as well these past 7 years. Mom passed away in March 2022, and my sisters still live in her house. Her old Maytag was good for them up until 2010 when I got them an older model to replace it, which is still running. Me, I've purchased a new-to-me home and am moving an hour away. I'm fixing/remodeling my apartment and leaving this washer dryer set here for the future tenants to use. I will happily keep it running as it most likely will never die lol... but low and behold, guess what comes with my new-to-me home? Yep, an exact model of the original 1980's Maytag washer the same as mom's early 80's version, and in this video. I couldn't be happier. I ran a load through it for the first time this week and it worked perfectly well. I remember the previous owner asking if I wanted their set removed? I said, "Nope, you can leave them for me to take care of." 😉 As some others will tell you, you'll want to keep it. It's a tank that will keep going and won't sink your pocket book to fix.

Yeah, they're built like a tank and in today's world from what I understand the closest you can get to the old school Maytag is Speed Queen

The fill/spin/fill/spin sequence is the “cooldown” rinse in the permanent press cycle. Yes, this cycle wastes too much water. The regular cycle does not have a cooldown rinse, but does have a spray rinse before the final rinse. . Yes, it is an extra safety feature that stops the timer when the lid is pressed against the timer knob. . Judging by the shine of the tub, this machine has not been used much and is close to being brand new. You should get many, many years of service out of this washer. It is far superior to any washer currently on the market. Congrats!

I've got the washer/dryer that my parents bought in 93, Mom never used the permanent press cycle. I know there's a lot of talk about the short stroke vs long stroke. the one that I have is the short stroke either way I hope this washer last a long time. I don't overload it and neither did my mom so it should.

This machine has the orbital transmissionl They changed from the big metal transmission to a smaller lighter plastic unit in 1985 or so. You can tell by the speed of the agitator when it is washing.

Hope you took that washing machine inside & hooked it up to use as your washer! Those (old-style) Maytag washers will last 30 years if not overloaded & if properly cared for! The Speed Queen "classic" washer.... model: TC5 is the washer to buy if purchasing a brand-new washer.

I know exactly what you mean I feel your pain These newer machines dictate how much water to be used and then you look in the Tub and the top layer is dry sitting there dancing back and forth 😋 How are they going to get clean 🤨
