Oh my god! That phenomenal act happens on touch sensitive washer panels when damp towels get removed from the front load washing machine and lifted in front of the panel to the dryer that is stacked above the front load washer. Maybe you are able to either get a top load washer or another front load washer that has regular buttons. Our washing machine from 14 years ago was directed as an Admiral Belt Drive top load washer.

Mine is 5 years old and this is the second time the panel has gone insane. I have the dryer on top of the washer (they don't make a kit for this, so I had to make one). When this happened the first time I suspected the front control panel was suffering from water ingress. Imagine pulling damp towels from the washer and lifting them into the dryer, above the panel. After years it's like water droplets got in and collected to cause signal crossing. Since I am not getting error codes, I am inclined to think the main controller is OK. So I heated the front control panel with a hair dryer, back and forth to spread the heat evenly and avoid warping the plastic. Within 30 minutes the machine was working normally again. And it worked for 3 months until yesterday when it happened again. This time the hair dryer didn't seem to be working so I used a space heater and drove the room into the high 90s all night long with the washer unplugged and the door open. The goal was to make everything as dry as a desert. This morning it works when I don't spin the knob and I use the power button to turn it on. I'm on my second load and have the space heater running as well. To get to the control panel I'll need to remove the dryer, so I am going to risk it and order a front control panel and assume the main controller is still intact. If I'm wrong, I'll have to lift the dryer twice. Aside from de-clogging the drain pump I have not had to do anything else with this washer. The companion dryer is older and got a roller/belt kit with idler pully about a year ago and is still running strong.

I'm not sure if you will ever see this but I just pulled the front panel off and used a hair dryer on high for 15 minutes but not too hot to hold, and that fixed the problem!!! Thank you!!!

@@mmkgreen2024 Good to know. I ended up buying a new washer because the replacement panel was on backorder and I couldn't wait. Now I have a spare washer that I didn't want taking up space in the garage. Thanks for responding. The American habit of fixing things is under assault these days. I remember when a washer lasted over a decade. What's "new" these days is poor craftsmanship (like sharp edges everywhere) and metals like zinc used in structural components. They are literally made to fail.

You can always replace your Maytag front loading washer with a used Whirlpool built Direct Drive washer with a mechanical timer.

I have the same exact problem. I have unplugged it for hours at a time and then it may or may not work next time. Sometimes it will begin to run then shout down and drain. I hate to admit defeat but that panel is too expensive to replace and it is not showing errors. It's a shame but looking at getting a LG washer to replace it.

you need to reset press temp soil level spin speed in 3 times and then press soil and the play button will flash and press the play button and turn off your washer and it is reseted

Did you ever fix it? Mine was doing the same. I replaced the control board (~200). That did fix it. I think it the control panel (~300)

My door is locked, can't open it now, control panel isn't even lit up to turn it off or on and I unplugged it and plugged it back in, NOTHING happens! I hate these control panels, they always go out. It's not worth fixing because of the cost, a person may as well buy a new washer.

I have the same issue. My washer is on the fritz. I can't turn it on using power button, i have to turn the knob. Sometimes when i finally get a load started, it just shuts off! So frustrating. Is it the control panel? Also my washer only works on normal mode with hot water. No other mode will work. At least it wont fill with water on any other mode. Anyone have a clue what i should do? Please be serious..i dont have time for games.
