One thing I forgot to mention in the video is how he chooses to keep the 8th Nemu's surname as Hachigo(8th), unlike before when he changed the 7th Nemu's surname from Nanago (7th) to Kurotsuchi, presumably out of pride. Proving that by the end of the series his actions are now in line with his beliefs about perfection, how it doesn't exist. Something as subtle as not changing a surname reveals that Mayuri is not being boastful or feeling pride for his creation. He has learnt his lesson and is more open to the idea of Nemu evolving and not restricting her like before. His contradictory belief about her being his perfect creation has been rectified, consequently eliminating a source of despair for himself.

He certainly represents the darkest aspects of Soul Society all on his own. When push comes to shove his obsession with research and willingness to do the worst is what gains him the upper hand in a fight. You could almost say it was a loud boast of his until he perceived Nemu developing above what he viewed as Urahara's genius. Now he's being consistent. No place left for a person to gain additional knowledge or abilities. Do you know what that means? For scientists such as ourselves, perfection only brings despair. It is our job to create things more wonderful than anything before them, but never to obtain perfection. A scientist must be a person who finds ecstasy while suffering from that antimony. The speech is really good and is absolutely true. Perfection is boring. Just like having cheat codes in a videogame or paying for someone to finish a project for you. Perfection by its very nature is unreachable and as beings who's very existence is entirely predicated on the iterative honing process that evolution and reproduction truly is then it is only natural nigh hardwired into the mind of every man woman and child to strive to become better. Those who don't become depressed and often kill them selves(after all life is motion and so perfecting the self is a constant motion in one direction). To stop growing to stop being better than you were yesterday is nothing more than death to iterative being like us! Thus perfection will always be a goal nigh unreachable. Not just because perfection is an abstract concept or even that perfection is subjective. Rather because to reach it is to proclaim your very existence need no longer itterate both biologically through reproduction) and psychologically. At such a point why continue living? One does not stay forever in a game they beat right? I do however think your wrong about a scientists mind. As a chemist i assure you there are tons of ego centric scientists who not only belive them selves to be perfect but also fail to understand that the journey to perfection is the beautiful part. The destination( Perfection) is in this way merely incidental. However i completely agree about the human mind part.

His gradual softening from a despicable monster into a likeable Mad Scientist was nice in a way. It is still hard to sit through that battle with Uryu though as it does a great job making you absolutely despise him upon first meeting him. However it's upon more watching and context clues that puts his actions into perspective. Like, what all did the Soul Society know and allow him to do? What was sanctioned what was denied? It really adds another layer of darkness on the History of the Soul Society itself. In my opinion I mean.

One thing I really like about the speech that the imaginary Szayelaporro gives him, is that he, despite claiming that he despised perfection, considered Nemu to be perfect. He is fully aware that from an objective point of view, that Nemu is not perfect, and the fact that she died is proof of this. Yet, when she dies, showing how much she has truly grown and become her own person, Mayuri clearly felt pride, despite claiming to feel ashamed. I think that this can be interpreted as how Mayuri, despite of everything, at the end of the day, is a father. And as a parent, he couldn't help but see his child, the thing he felt the most pride in, as 'Perfect', even if he knew that that was not objectively true, just like any parent would see their child. So, when he is raising the new Nemu, he has finally become a better parent, since a part of him has finally realized how much Nemu really meant to him. Mayuri is definitely one of the most well written characters in Bleach, and probably my favorite character in the series. His speech about Perfection is one of my favorite bits of dialoge ever, and his fight against Pernida is my favorite fight in the series. Fantastic analysis as always!

I think the novels touch upon his “softening” behavior. The quincies that he’s captured are treated more humanely, and I think some of the captains have teased him for treating the new Nemu more like a daughter.

Would’ve been cool if he got his own movie instead of toshiro
@Prushinthespirit4 жыл бұрын
Would've been cool if there was a filler arc dedicated to him turning against Soul Society. He could have been the most fearsome villain in Bleach history if science wasn't solely his motivation. In "Fade to Black" just one of his contraptions almost destroyed Seireitei.
@absoluteballs4 жыл бұрын
@@Prushinthespirit tbh I think the Regai Arc shouldve been more focused on Mayuri's past and lead to more personal involvement with Ouko since their creations are pretty similar

I think Mayuri is a reflection of how Japanese Military science uses to be. Constantly experimenting on individuals without caring. But also as we see the older he gets the more of a "friend" he becomes.

He didn't collapse due to exhaustion. Some of Pernida's nerves got to his legs and broke them as a last ditch effort. If they weren't broken he would have walk to the pods himself.

It also needs to be mentioned that Mayuri's description of perfection as a sort of despair ties in with the series theme of overcoming despair. It's not just a cool personal personal philosophy, but it serves to further the story as a whole on a thematic level.

This is my favorite character in Bleach and I wish the series was good enough to accommodate his story potential.

Mayuri is an oddity for me. One the one hand, he's clearly batshit insane with very few, if any, morals. On the other hand, he's one of the most unique Captains, both in appearance and ability. I can't say I totally hate him, but I wouldn't call myself a fan, either. However, his speech on perfection is one of my favorite from the series.

He’s a sadist who pursues knowledge in the way a berserker pursues conflict to gain strength. The evolution of only doing sadistic acts upon less desirables means nothing more than he’s gotten softer. It’s easier to rationalize inflicting agony on a subhuman than it is to do the same to an actual person. He only traded one excuse for another and the only things he values is his pride as a scientist and that which affirms it.

Ahhhh I've been waiting for this video man! Huge fan! "Perfection" like always. I didn't care much for Mayuri and then he became my favorite captain in the tybw arc. He was without a doubt the MVP of the war, and people seem to sometimes forget about him because they are up Urahara's butt lol. Keep it up my brother. Would love to see Joshiro or Yamamoto next

I love the fact that you brought up That small exchange between him and Byakuya before sending Ichigo to the world of the living. That small exchange is one of the deepest character moments for him. The things he considers a high probability, he pushes to the back of his mind. So when Byakuya calls him on it after sending Ichigo to the world of the living, you realize that it's just founded belief because of Ichigo's dependability, he comes to have more belief in his than he's shown some of the other captains

Always loved Mayuri. He shows that you don't have to be the strongest or have the most hax ability to win a fight, just use your brain and knowledge of when to fight and how to best subdue your opponent. He never stops moving, always 100% wanting to learn something new and how it can be used in every conceivable way imaginable.

Mayuri's character development throughout the entire story of bleach was incredible at first i didn't like him at all but i started to like his character as i continued watching the series and after i read tybw manga he's my one of the fav character within bleach his character is so fascinating and interesting you never known what he's up to and his intellect is on different level and i agree if he was not there to help the shinigami during the battle against quinces then they will have to go through a lot of trouble and also mayuri's character shows you the dark side of soul society and how twisted their methods are at the last i just wanna say that kubo nailed at writing and designing mayuri's character and also dbzimran you also nailed at analyzing mayuri's character keep up the great work ❤

An interesting thing is one of the differences between Kurosuchi and Mr. HatandClogs. When something catches them off guard Hat and clogs reacts with suprise then goes to "let's try this then" while Kurosuchi seems annoyed then pulls something out that he prepared just in case. Potentially they were both prepared for such events but didn't think they'd need to worry about using these precautions

I always liked Mayuri and I don't know why. His VA is really talented but he's just so interesting and he doesn't let anything get in the way of his research. The way he treated Nemu was appalling but I like he does eventually admit he cares for her in the only way he's capable of. Like he's still a psycho but he's got a lot of depth. Plus I think it's a cute detail he writes a medical magazine that's really popular in Seireitei.

His philosphy on perfection made me realize that nothing is perfect but while i cant achieve perfection, the pursuit is more important through trial and error. That whole quote when i read the manga in HS made me someone who had more of a desire to learn than to perfect

When I first saw the character of Mayuri he reminded me very much of Batman, someone is cold and calculating that can plan his battles according to his opponent to win. In my opinion Mayuri was one of the stronger captains not power wise but intelligence wise. A good majority of us have seen Batman go toe to toe with Superman and we all know who the top winner would be.

I really like Mayuri from the beginning. The detail in his design struck me from the first viewing. I feel like he is in the same regard I have for Hisoka. They have rules. They follow those rules despite their positions in the world. They both have less favorable sides to them that can't be fully ignored but don't surpass their greatness.
