Thanks for recording the videos. I'm part way through the same job on a CX-7 with the same mzr-cd engine. It's taken a few hours to get the bolts out of the end plate because there is just no bloody room, there is still 2 bolts that I think I'm going to have to make a special tool to get at.

Thank you so much for recording these videos. I'm deep into right now on my 6 and the last bolt to undo is proving tough. Any tips for the oil pump/balance shaft sprocket bolt? I'm hoping it's not left hand threaded and I'm just tighten it up! Cheers and thanks again.

From what I can remember, I couldn’t get the oil pump sprocket off so I decided to not to change oil pump sprocket and chain, no visual wear was on sprocket and the oil pump chain is not under the same amount of force to stretch with wear just driving the oil pump. I’ve done over 40k miles since and had no problems with it. Good luck.

Well I finally got the timing cover off - thanks to your video! Whats odd is after moving the crankshaft manually back and forth maybe 1/4 turn, the chain is now perfectly tight.. Very strange.. maybe a damaged / stuck tensioner thats now freed? Please see my update on this job here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6HZl5eVp7hlndE - what do you think? Cheers!

Well done with your progress. Very strange that the chain has become tight. The tensior must have become stuck or blocked. From what I can remember is that the tensioner self adjust of a ratchet mechanism once it adjust past the next tooth on the tenth or it can’t move back in, and use oil pressure to keep a dampened pressure on the chain. If its the case that yours had become stuck this would have dramatically caused the wear in the chain and sprockets. When I took my tensior apart you could see by the wear I was on one of the last teeth on the ratchet, your must be on the the last or fully extended past the limit and jammed now. Do you have new tensioner to put on? Before you put the new chain back make sure you have the tensioner with fitted pin in place first and when you correct the timing location on the crankshaft you back it off anti clockwise slightly instead of turning it clockwise back to re align timing, this would cause it to be 180 degrees out compared to cam.

Top tips - thanks. Raining all day :-( But i did take the chain off, the tensioner exploded. Cam / Crank shaft spin nicely, no damage :-) All to do now, fit new tensioner, guides, cogs setup timing. Ill probably leave the crankshaft one as you did - no puller!

Just wanted to say a big thanks to you for your videos. Yesterday I had some time to put her back together. All working as new :-) Cleared the engine codes, DPF regen, new oil etc and its quiet and responsive. Thanks for your videos! Saved me £1k !

Hi just wondering where do you buy these parts? Can you send me a number or a website

Purchased kit from ebay, there about £109 but I payed about £80 on eBay 20% off promotion. Kit does seem to be good quality. I’ve covered over 3000miles since repair and my car has run fine.

Can you record sound of your engine after repair especially under acceleration. I have strange slightly noticeable ticking so I want to know is it because of the chain or is it something normal - maybe injectors. My mail is nikola.teodorovic@gmail.com
