Mazda 6, P0102 air flow circuit A (circuit low)

It's now traditional that I bore you with a windy comment, Peter - :-) . Was working on a Prius today - never worked on one before - NCT fail, bit of rust. Was welding away, thinking I wasn't exactly in sparkling form on the "Welding Good" front today - acceptable but nothing great - got it welded, went to put the torch down... noticed the torch didn't have a tip fitted.. lol.. shroud hid that "aspect" when using it.. One of the other lads had nicked the tip for their machine yesterday. Seems you can indeed weld without a tip... Kinda. Other "This weeks shocker" was a Navara we had in for "Gearbox failure" - automagic, hasn't turned a wheel for over a year, owner ready to pull their hair out as nowhere would touch it. His neighbour gave him our number & he rang out of desperation. We work on endless Navaras so it was "Meh" to me. Usually its the transmission control unit that has gone bad - I was expecting to be soldering another control unit back to life. Got it recovered to here, started poking - no fluid in the box. Added fluid, fired it up - fluid ended up on the floor under the bumper. Oil cooler got a knock, pipe busted off. No problem - new oil cooler. Rang everywhere, not available. Rang Nissan - the parts guy laughed when I gave him the part number - never a good sign.. A smidge under €1400.00 with the VAT... None in stock either - order & wait. It's a €170 part, tops - it's a bloomin small oil cooler - without the ride. Decided Nissan could go do one for their €1400, got some ally tube off a scrapper, tapped the cooler, threaded the ally tube, joined them together with bearing lock added, stuck it back in the jeep, put things back together, added fluid & took it for a test drive - runs & shifts mint once more. Happy Owner? Very.

@@bastogne315 Owner booked the Navara in for a service - waaay overdue. Blew it up 3 days after I fixed the box, on the way here for the full service - Temp soared (these like cooking their heads) & he stayed driving.. another one we couldn't save...

You then hear nothing till they ring you going "It died when I was..." Mint - you saved paying 200 quid for the service... now you go get to buy a new wagon.. Smart.. Dead Smart..

The dealer charges around 2k, we are €1200. It is a very common from 120,000 kms on & it causes loads of DPF related problems 😬😬😬

Hi Peter, another excellent video as always. A quick question, my Mazda 6 2.2d 2014 has what feels like a slight misfire in all gears when driven at a constant speed with rpm at 1800. With the lightest of pressure on gas pedal it goes away. Brand new injectors, new exhaust camshaft, new timing chain. Oil pressure is fine and no signs of carbon under rocker cover. Any ideas? No fault codes either...

My petrol Mazda 3 has same issue at 1200 rpm in 2nd. Been on 3 diagnostic machines inc MD but no joy. I just keep driving hoping one day it throws a code.

The hardest question to answer is when a person tells me everything has been done, at that stage I need to question if everything was done correctly 🤔🤔🤔 The only thing you haven’t mentioned is hydraulic tappets underneath the exhaust camshaft. These fail quite regularly and have caught me out on several occasions. When they fail they get soft and restrict air flow out of the cylinder after a combustion event. They normally do create a P0101 fault after 50 or 100 kms of driving though, every other module will store Invalid data from PCM codes too 🤔🤔🤔

I wounder if some debris has managed to block the small serpentine Chanel tat feeds the maf sensor I assume it’s a hot film type sensor if one of the sensing elements was to break before or after the heated elements on which the air passes over it would not be able to calculate any flow rate hence total zero mee thinks anyway lol

I actually really like and would buy on my if the opportunity arose. But unfortunately after 6 to 7 years of age the need around 4k of work done to then & once that is done it runs perfectly for another 6 to 7 years 😉👍👍👍

Ahh i love my Mazda air flow meter. Clean it regularly too. I actually clean my engine regularly. U can eat your dinner off the engine cover.

Nice one Peter….if the sensor was cleaned with brake cleaner then that would potentially kill it…electrical contact cleaner is the only option if mass air flow cleaner can’t be got…I am wondering…Mazda are still selling Sky Active 2.2 D options…is it still the same engine under the bonnet of the new models??😕🫣

​@@bastogne315 they are still sold but from 18 onwards they are revised. Different cams, upgraded injector seals and probably some other changes. Injector seals sopve the top end sludge and subsequent low oil pressure because of blocked strainers. Harder wearing cams dont wear so much and metal shavings dont then ruin vacuum pump. Upgraded exhaust pressure sensor, turbo setup etc. They seem to have fixed a lot of the common issues with the older engines like mine. Mines just gone in for a carbon clean, new set of injector seals, top end clean and new oil strainer. Expecting my credit card to get rinsed too. 😂

No Damien, they have changed design from 2018 on. That exhaust camshaft that gave so much trouble is gone at least 😂😂😂
