Thanks mate 👍 just bought a Mazda6 , and this 'warning' was on the dash. After looking through previous service dockets provided with car, i learned that the previous owner lived with it for about 3 years ( dockets mentioned the car being scanned, and that was the diagnosis ) . I just hope when i replace the pump, i dont interfere with the fuel line , as i would hate to bleed the system. 🇦🇺😉

They are quite easy to change & you shouldn’t have any issues with bleeding even if you remove the 2 fuel lines, it doesn’t bother them. Great Peter..mission accomplished and well done and thank you for putting up the videos…a fantastic resource…I replaced the vacuum too because of an SCBS fault popping up…it did resolve to a point but I also have a sporadic fault which appears to be coming from one of the four front parking sensors..which I suspect causes the SCBS to reappear..disappears on next restart..but which one of 4…eeney..meeney…miney…mo! 🤔🤪

@@kennedysgarage3281 The problem is that is doesn’t happen all the time…could drive 20kms perfect..well when I say perfect the SCBS doesn’t show but I do have a shudder with engine management light eventually appearing (like I’m in the wrong gear type of shudder - lurching…revs varying) …most noticeable when cold… and primarily in 3rd and 4th gear @1750ish RPM…MAF and MAP replaced (original MAP was pretty much a carbon cone so cleaned it but fearing it was damaged in the process I replaced but shudder remains (I feel it’s like a Turboboost issue - intake side spins freely) and this evening I got a new error code P0236 so next up I’m replacing the sensor on the turbo (Bosch….324) Then back to the sporadic SBCS issue…if you’ve any other thoughts on the P0236 I’d really appreciate it 👍🏻…overall power I’d say is a bit low but it pulls ok.

@@damienkearns9922 P0236 is a map sensor related fault code. If you can get a scantool connected to it take a look at live data, specifically the map readings. While looking at that pressure, graph it and wiggle/pull out of the wiring loom to it & see if anything changes 🤔

Peter..big thank you for your suggestion..tested both MAP and Turbo Pressure sensors (voltage and scan tool) ..voltages are weird on these but the scan tool did reveal both were working as expected..also based on your video I did compression tests on all cylinders..nothing wrong there…found a rubber seal on the pipe from the cooler to the turbo to be out of place…fixed that and also made sure the Turbo Pressure Sensor was nice and tight in the tube and so far zero faults (even SCBS quiet!) and the car has had a massive increase in power..these engines are very “torquey”…so a million thanks for you pointer and suggestion…

The SCBS fault will only appear after the SCBS sees an engine management fault. So drive the car for 10 or 20 kms and the do an engine management fault scan. Move forward from there, it is most likely to be a P0101 air flow fault or P0401 egr flow fault. Fix that & the SCBS fault will be resolved 👍👍

This must be what's wrong with my 2014 Mazda 6 >105kmiles. It has this constant top engine extra rattly noise like there is a squicky maybe loose bearing top engine that is in sync with the engine speed. I noticed often a Vehicle system inspection error that cannot be read by my cheap DIY fault reader. There was a night when I lost braking power while parking but this went away, at this time it also flagged SCBS inspection required. This all went away by itself although the rattly noise continues and I also get an engine check light for turbo boost pressure not detected would come on yet the car has excellent power. It would only have a kind of rough air intake noise while idling which goes away on restarting the engine. I suspect this must be from the turbo's wastegate actuator which I presume is controlled by the vacuum pump. So I have been deleting the codes with mechanics not knowing what's wrong. The Vehicle system inspection comes on half as frequently (100miles)as the engine check light for the turbo. The car has excellent performance apart from that top engine rattle. Mechanics have had no clue what it is. Thanks to this video I now know it must be the vacuum pump!
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 Жыл бұрын
Vacuum pumps fail very often which can make the brake pedal hard but doesn’t make any extra noise, unfortunately I would think the rattling noise could be coming from your exhaust camshaft & hydraulic camshaft followers. I have a video on changing these also 😉👍

Hi Ian, the garage before me had cleared all the faults & the car wasn’t able to run long enough to monitor each piece of data to see anything wrong. ie. Air flow or egr flow numbers being very low. The same applies to the vacuum pump fault, it needed a drive cycle in order to recognise the fault. Does that make sense 🤔

If you could get your hands on a scantool you could check it very easily, just by looking at live data. The only problem is that the vacuum pump failure is normally caused by exhaust camshaft wearing and bits of metal from it effecting the vacuum pump. Hi Grzegorz, the funny thing about these Mazda Skyactive engines is that they want everything right. So once you see a P258B it is going to need a vacuum pump. Now they say that they fail due to metal shavings from the exhaust camshaft wearing. So you will more than likely end up removing the 4 injectors & the rocker cover to inspect the camshaft condition also 😬😬😬 The camshaft’s seem to be worn in them all from around 150,000 kms on

Codes as found below, 8 times off and on the motorway to keep going, get off motorway and go cross country for 20 miles, super smooth, super fast, just EML, no further Red Oil light, however it'll be pending on any motorway it'll re-pop up together with EML my thoughts ( Red Oil Light ) P0524 - engine oil pressure too low P055F - engine oil pressure out of range Thanks !!!!!

The injector washers fail which in turn contaminates the oil with carbon & then that carbon blocks the strainer ( cause & effect) Mazda also inhibit throttle response when the oil pressure is too low & flag SCBS & traction control faults with any engine management malfunction . Part is £50, strainer, think strainer comes off with pump, watched your video 3 hours ago and about 10 Mazda videos later, I'm guessing £500 for a strainer inc labour about right. Pump if also done is £177 recon or 499 new, guess just add the part to the strainer if do both together. Same placement in sump. I'm likely going to fix this one, for once !!!!! God knows who I use in Cheshire Manchester, only a Mazda-tech bod like yourselves ; those that work on these nice but pesky-so-and-so-SkyA-D's

More than one Mazda diesel customer is doing them for misselling when clearly they were never gonna do the mileage. Same for VW

It is probably tough going to keep making them cleaner & cleaner ( euro 5 / euro 6 emission standards) hence Toyota nearly getting out of them 🤷🏼‍♂️

Best thing you can do for these, if you want them to last is so a DPF and EGR delete. The dpf regen is what kills this engine in my opinion. Either that or you got to really keep on top of them in terms of oil change, like every 5k miles, use premium diesel and add additives to your Deisel. But even with that, the head gasket will always fail because of the dpf regen overwhelms the cooling system. So yeah, not great for the environment, but DPF and EGR delete.

Is it safe to drive with this fault ?
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 Жыл бұрын
Relatively safe but it is a brake related fault, so you would have to drive cautiously. If you press the brake 3 or 4 times you will notice it get harder too. Happy Christmas Moe 🙏🎄🎄

Hey Peter, I changed my vacuum pump on my 2016 Mazda 6. However; my car now cranks but, won't start. I realise now that I didnt position the small articulating part of the new pump in the same way the old one was position. Can u advise how to correct this?
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 Жыл бұрын
Hi Allister, if your vehicle won’t start now it isn’t due to the vacuum pump. It only creates a vacuum and will not stop it from starting. Did you disconnect any fuel lines when changing it ??
@Zero0479
@Zero0479 Жыл бұрын
@@kennedysgarage3281 All fuel lines are connected however we have confirmed that no fuel is being sent from the electrical lift pump. I do not understand why though. As far as I know I didn't have an issue with the fuel system before. The problem initially detected presented the P258B code.

Does a faulty vacuum pump cause loss if power?
@kennedysgarage3281
@kennedysgarage3281 Жыл бұрын
A vacuum pump that is unable to create enough vacuum to work the brake booster & 2 turbo control solenoid’s at the same time will trigger multiple engine management faults. Which in turn will send your car into limp home mode, which won’t allow the engine to rev over 2000 rpm. Does this answer your question??

I have just recently discovered that some of these vehicles were recalled & some of them weren’t. I got it in the dealers but my one was recalled & discounted. So ask them if there is a recall on yours???

@@mieszkanieodnowa I cannot recall exactly but I don’t think I did. It is quite an easy operation, just line up the drive shaft in the same position as the old unit that you remove & it is easy enough 💪💪👍
