I don't understand why they make a dash like that on a ute. They it's going to get dusty and there are so many places where dust will collect. It's a shame manufacturers can't make a dash that is easy to wipe down.

Dude I used to get bagged all the time for buying a bt-50 but I bought cause they different to what people buy in Australia like hiluxes land cruisers commodores etc but no one really gives the Mazda’s credit until they drive on my best mate always wants to drive mine now over his hilux when we go away now that I’ve got a lift kit and a 3 inch exhaust and ecu remap it really does give it a boost in what it already has grea car would never sell only upgrade to newer year that’s it

Jacques Shepperson : So have I , where our work Hilux was getting around 9.8-12L/100km and 760-850 km / tank, my new Bt50 is getting 8.3-10.2L/100km and 780-960 km/tank . Have you ever noticed all the real world averages on the ute testing / tests are 9 times out of 10 always over the 10l mark on most of the smaller diesel manufacturers engines with general work and towing alike and the Mazda / Ranger are under the 10l mark most of the time, funny 😁 that!!!!

I don't even live in Australia, but in my country Hilux is notorious for flipping over. When I used to work as a professional driver with a permit for local and long distance routes, in 90% of single vehicle accidents I saw involved either a Toyota Hiace, or a Toyota Hilux, both of which where almost always lying on their side or on their roof. The remaining 10% of single vehicle accidents was the occasional idiot beemer driver who swipe a lane barrier or an old pickup truck that was so heavily overloaded that the rear axle gave out.

Comparing the Hilux 2.8L 4 cylinder to a BT50 3.2L 5 cylinder or the big brother Ford Ranger. It's like Ladyboy vs Man with that massive screen reminding your self how pretty you look in the mirror. Yes the Hilux was once the King of all utes and it might be the top seller then, but also there's a lot of them selling second hand so what does that tell you, just because someone say it was. Even the Isuzu D-Max the Holden Colorado has better chassis come on this is 2017 not 2007 stop you marketing bxllshxt.

guy proulx well it kind of does when you factor in that these are lifestyle vehicles more than anything now and the hilux isn't safe on bitumen in the event of a high speed evasive movement as its susceptible to roleover. the ranger is king currently anyway.

The screen in particular? "A little bit aged and dated compared to the hilux and it's not quite as functional for that reason" What, how? Please explain instead of blurting a random opinion please... Also there's no point mentioning the leaf springs and explaining they won't feel as comfortable as a coil spring suv.. Please don't call it a car, it's a ute. Why is your review on the bt-50 5mins and the hilux 2mins? What a shit review.

matthew fyfe none of these car/ute reviewers know much about the infotainment in the Mazda , it has a lot of features that most people haven’t heard of or know about, like the logging of all gps routes taken ,fuel burn max/min speed max/min , average rpm ,the inbuilt hard drive/memory for storing up 8 of your favourite CDs /DVDs, the reversing camera display can be displayed in the centre console for around $40 nz, the conversion tables, sci-calculator , iPod , iPad etc .

Not word one about their 4WD capabilities or even that they are 4WD. Might as well have been testing 2WD versions of these utes. How is this relevant to readers or even able to be called a review? Don't say driving in a bit of sand they found under a bridge is off-roading. Junk review. I can find out most of the information provided in this review in a glossy dealer brochure.

Keep dreaming... as if you would spend 53k on the Mazda to feel like your sitting in an outdated truck. The Hilux is pricey but I haven't been able to fault it. Loads of power, effortless in all situations I have been in, from towing a loaded dual axle trailer to the hill decent control up and down muddy cliffs... all in supreme comfort. Very well designed interior, lots of space for large adults even in the back, drink holders up the arse, excellent seats, well designed centre console, it's even got a 240v inverter.
