Mazda CX-5 Diesel Review: Is it Worth the Upgrade?

I've been wanting Mazda to make a TD for years and they've successfully did it, they've brought the Skyactiv-D to the US, at last!

I have been offered a 2019 via dealership locally that has been using it internally writing it down. Very few came to Canada and overall it was not received as well as expected , I believe it is due to one fact, the high price and overall lack luster fuel savings it offers when one sees the engine as a 5K upgrade. The dealership has given me their price but honestly I feel it is still near 5k off what I value it to be worth, if they dropped their asking price by 3500'ish I would consider but for what they want now it ain't worth it

To attract those looking for replacements to their ageing TDI's Mazda needs to offer the diesel in some lower priced smaller car options. Most who own the TDI's (myself included) purchased them because of the incredible efficiency, great real world driveability (most people don't drive around at WOT) and price. To get the same (or close) fuel efficiency from a gas engine you give up on useable power and throttle response, whereas the TDI's are peppy and fun to drive while feeling like a much bigger engine without the added fuel usage. Example being I can drive from Huntsville Ontario to Ottawa and back to Huntsville on a bit less then half the fuel in my 2006 Jetta then I can in my 2019 Honda Civic.

Agreed, I'm keeping my 2015 Passat TDI for now!

In Europe we had the Diesel engine since the first version, I bought the gas version, cheaper selling price, cheaper maintenance and less prone to problems related to diesel engines!

Crazy high price aside, it's quite inefficient. Very poor fuel economy

poor? my Cx5 diesel gets around 16-17km/l hwy driving around 40MPG
