We drive the Diesel since it’s introduction (in Thailand) and I think it is the best engine for the CX-5. Unfortunately i can not compare it with the 2.5 Turbo, because it is available here. I very like the torque and also the sound at full throttle. The passing power is enough for me. Our fuel economy is just above 7l/100 km. The rafted 0-100 km time is just below 10s. It seems, that the special needs for the USA have cut some of the performance.

"...they added it (Blue DEF tank) in, and it took longer." That is the understatement of the year. Mazda told me they had a SkyActiv diesel ready in 2017... It is now the 2020 Model Year. This engine is also a huge letdown, with less horsepower and torque than they originally projected and not exactly stellar fuel economy. But you do get to pay a couple thousand dollars more for it, so that's nice.

@@adamwarpinski8838 I am sure you have already figured this out, but do not waste your time and money on the diesel version. For the money, the 2.5L Turbo will definitely suffice, if your heart is set on the CX-5. And as an update for me, I actually ended up getting a 2020 Subaru Outback Touring XT instead. I bought it it late February and have been happy with the purchase.

With emission controls, modern diesels don't last nearly as long as they once did. They don't even last as long as gas engines before needing thousands in repairs. If you want a long service life, just a simple normally aspirated gas engine.

Chris Any proofs and facts for your claim?
@nukewiller4083
@nukewiller4083 5 жыл бұрын
@ It's not just a claim from some random person, the manufacturer's expected service life for most of these new diesels is only 150,000 miles (241,000 km). On average, that's worse than gas engines. That's because major servicing is required around that time. A major emissions system overhaul would easily total the value a 10 year old vehicle with 150,000 miles. A new aftertreatment system alone would easily cost $10,000+, and that will all but certainly need replacing at 150,000 miles if not sooner. Our own diesel needed a clean out of the DPF and EGR that costed us $1,800 at 65,000 miles. That wasn't even a replacement, it's was just a clean out. With that kind of cost, they don't expect people to keep them very long.

Everyone is missing the point of a diesel engine. The low compression ratio helps lower emissions and extends the life of the engine. The diesel engine is designed for low end torque to help you tow stuff. This SUV is targeted for people who want to tow jet skies, small trailers and for steep hills. If you are looking for 0-60 times buy the turbo gas model.

What gives Mazda Canada? 10 years to wait for a mild neutered version. Would love to see the build sheet for their biturbo diesels. For a culture as we have in NA vis a vie all the Horse power crazy big trucks with ever growing power ever lessening mileage. Dodge 12V 217 hp 1997 then to 2007 Ram 5.9 CRD 320hp. Even the Little 1.6 cdi in Europe has a biturbo version with 150 hp. Would make a positive impact on the Equinox and Terrains along with the Chevy Cruze hatchbacks and sedans. All those have been discontinued as of 2020. Only the few Mercedes Benz models before the VW fiasco had the factory Biturbo 2.2 litre engines making near 200hp.

@OmerTheGreatOne
@OmerTheGreatOne 5 жыл бұрын
Would I consider one? NO. I think diesel need to die. It is not cheaper or cleaner. It does not match the response of hybrids, even though the total torque number might lead you to believe it. It is nose heavy, unlike hybrid where the battery can be placed separately. Hybrid is better in stop n go traffic. This car particularly is too expensive because of diesel premium. Should be offered in all trims or not offered at all. I am a Mazda fan, been a fan for a long time. I had Mazdaspeed6 before now have Mazda6. Very happy with those purchases. BUT not sure what Mazda is thinkin these days.
@sic22l
@sic22l 5 жыл бұрын
It actually has much better response and more importantly - feel than any hybrid. Diesel premium is much less than $4k, for some stupid reasons Mazda decided to limit this engine to one trim with all the bells and whistles and that's the real issue.

@cheapshot7244 5 жыл бұрын
I feel like the MPG isn’t sufficient enough , you’re paying $5k over the gas model for the same mpg and prices fluctuate, some months you might get diesel 30 cents cheaper and sometimes unleaded gas is 60 cents cheaper. The terrain failed due to horrible marketing but it did get you an extra 8-10 mpg improvement for the diesel. Made sense. With Mazda the only thing I’d bank on is way less depreciation for the diesel

Dang. We just bought a 2019 (used) for my son's first car. Reading all of these comments, I feel like it was a terrible choice. As a mom, the AWD and safety features were key. With a diesel engine, I was hoping for longevity and appreciated the gas mileage. Happy to report that all comments have solidified that I've indeed purchased a pile of garbage. And now I feel like one, as well. Yesss!!

Costs almost $10k more than a CRV EX. Gets less miles per gallon than the CRV. Forget about it.

By over 3 sec ? I think his testing was sloppy plus stricter emissions . In the uk and I would imagine. EU by extension the towing capacity is 1800 kg for 2:2 d as well as 2.5 gas.. Considering the cost and how slow it is plus luck of qualified diesel mechanics will not make this car a success in NA.

it is actually 7.8 sec. 184bhp and 445nm of torque. Also fuel consumption is 6.9-7 l city. I bought one exactly a month ago.

They are stupid !! I love disels but I never put 45k on a Mazda which is not even much efficient!!! Very disappointing ! It's evident that with that price they will not sell any more than GM group!

0:26 Land Rover Jaguar Group is non-premium? Speaking of JLR. I wouldn’t touch their products with a 10 foot stick. You think the Germans are not reliable, just let the JLR bring you to a whole new world of unreliability. Also, diesels are getting phased out in Europe, its biggest market. Also, the whole point of having diesel is so that you can be cheap and save a few bucks. Having the diesel on the base trims instead of the higher trims is clearly the sensible thing to do. Like all the European manufacturers. Cuz if I was looking to buy 50g car spending money on gas is probably not going to be huge problem for me.

Stop misleading people. Its not $5,000 for the engine... is $5000 for the engine, leather seats and all the bells and whistles. Also, the CX-5 gets about 6.2 liters per 100km. You are driving a diesel like a gas car,. that's why your fuel economy is so low.

Doesn't make sense when you are saying it wouldn't drive normally without the added diesel filtering. How so? Why is that as it doesn't make sense. It would get better gas mileage without that stuff as it's less restricted and possibly get slightly better acceleration.

I'm sorry but this car with its current price is just dead on arrival. Diesel is more expensive, the upfront cost is also more and it is more sluggish. The fuel economy is also mediocre. As much as I like Mazda, this engine is the biggest blunder they've done since the RX-8.
