We drive the Diesel since it’s introduction (in Thailand) and I think it is the best engine for the CX-5. Unfortunately i can not compare it with the 2.5 Turbo, because it is available here. I very like the torque and also the sound at full throttle. The passing power is enough for me. Our fuel economy is just above 7l/100 km. The rafted 0-100 km time is just below 10s. It seems, that the special needs for the USA have cut some of the performance.

"...they added it (Blue DEF tank) in, and it took longer." That is the understatement of the year. Mazda told me they had a SkyActiv diesel ready in 2017... It is now the 2020 Model Year. @nukewiller40835 жыл бұрын
@ It's not just a claim from some random person, the manufacturer's expected service life for most of these new diesels is only 150,000 miles (241,000 km). On average, that's worse than gas engines. That's because major servicing is required around that time. A major emissions system overhaul would easily total the value a 10 year old vehicle with 150,000 miles. A new aftertreatment system alone would easily cost $10,000+, and that will all but certainly need replacing at 150,000 miles if not sooner. Our own diesel needed a clean out of the DPF and EGR that costed us $1,800 at 65,000 miles. That wasn't even a replacement, it's was just a clean out. With that kind of cost, they don't expect people to keep them very long.

Even the Little 1.6 cdi in Europe has a biturbo version with 150 hp. Would make a positive impact on the Equinox and Terrains along with the Chevy Cruze hatchbacks and sedans. Should be offered in all trims or not offered at all. I am a Mazda fan, been a fan for a long time. I had Mazdaspeed6 before now have Mazda6. Very happy with those purchases. Doesn't make sense when you are saying it wouldn't drive normally without the added diesel filtering. How so? Why is that as it doesn't make sense. It would get better gas mileage without that stuff as it's less restricted and possibly get slightly better acceleration.

I'm sorry but this car with its current price is just dead on arrival. Diesel is more expensive, the upfront cost is also more and it is more sluggish. The fuel economy is also mediocre. As much as I like Mazda, this engine is the biggest blunder they've done since the RX-8.

Come on mazda.... one trim? Really? I hope they have a good set of marketing ninjas to push this nonsense.

I don't get the appeal of diesel vehicles really... when there's better alternatives in fuel economy and price.
