Just what I was looking for in my research on this vehicle. Thank you, thank you Sir. It is a gorgeous car that can obviously get ugly real fast if you don't do your homework. I just saw and test drove this same model yesterday that falls in that VIN range and it is very concerning for me. I'm going back tommorrow and checking this. I will demand an OBDC readout to see if it ever threw that error after I look at it's dipstick and service record. If either one is not what it should be I'm going to have my say but I'm not touching any CX 9 that falls within that manufacturing range. Subscribed.

My Mazda dealer overfills all CX-9s regardless of what year they are as a matter of policy. I have a 2020 CX-9 (wife’s car) that is not covered under the TSB, and it does not appear to burn oil but they overfill it anyway, although not quite as much as you are showing in the video. I would say my dealer overfills it by about half as much as what you are showing. I was told a similar story by the dealership as you. I do also have a 2021 Mazda 6 that is covered by the TSB but luckily I am not seeing it burn much oil at all. In 2k miles I barely see any change in the level on the dipstick. The Mazda 6 is my baby so I change the oil myself.

You won’t see oil consumption until around 3-3500. When the dealer monitors they are only required to test consumption and around 1200 miles which is a joke, but my car will not make the full 5000 mile interval of oil changes without needing oil

That engine takes 4.5 qts when you change the oil and filter. I am curious if a person used Valvoline Restore and Protect if that would clear up this issue. In order to keep warranty relevant you must have the dealer do all maintenance. Dealer changed mine and it was exactly on the full mark.

I have the exact problem with my 2021 cx5. They claimed there was no tsb until I found it and showed it to them. They changed the seals and I haven’t made it to the next oil change interval and the light came on again😡 I think they deliberately over filled so you wouldn’t notice. Note I have to go back and tell them it’s still using oil. I found the problem before 36000 miles.

i've left a few comments below describing my situation. But basically my valves were replaced about a year ago, but I kept burning at about the same rate, went back to the dealership. Dealer changed my oil and added dye (I paid for oil change), after keeping car for a few days dealer found my valve cover gasket was leaking oil. That was covered under warranty. So if your engine is burning oil something is off, it could be turbo or somewhere else.

This has been happening on my 2021 CX-9 since the time I bought it. They kept on having me bring it in filling up and then bringing it back. Bought 2021 GT with 8k miles 6 months ago, now I am at about 16k miles. I had my valve stems replaced under warranty 2 months ago under that TSB (prior to that twice low oil popped up twice). After the repair in 2.5k miles I burned through another 1.5+ quarts. After topping off I am suppose to bring it back after 1000 miles so dealership can measure rate of consumption again. My dealership adds about .5 above the max line. So in my case valve stems replacement didn't solve the issue. Could be Monday morning engine build? or piston rings? Who knows. Not happy at all. Expected to keep the car for 5-7 years but now I am not so sure.

@siddharthnarula4344 all they needed to see was the code when they hooked it to the computer. Even though I had topped off the oil level, the code was still in memory and that's all they needed to approve it. Directly after getting the seals replaced, I did have some oil consumption and I thought the new seals did not fix the issue but overtime, it got much better so perhaps there was a short break in. Or something. Just recently went 5000 miles between oil changes and there was barely any oil consumed.

Overfill can damage engine don't listen those morons. Drain oil to the top level. And better if you start change oil by yourself. That's why when you go to the dealer, dealers pour in as much oil as possible and then the engine takes oil. I changed the oil in the gearbox at the dealer at the beginning of this year and they poured in half a quart so the gearbox couldn't shift higher at 60mph. Than I check transmission oil level by myself and drain to the point and transmission start shift like before.

I have a cx9-2021 and having the same exact issue with my vehicle. I only have 30k miles. If I can overfill and not have any major problems for another 70k miles I will probably keep it cause I do like the vehicle a lot, but if it's just a ticking time bomb even after the tsb is addressed, I am inclined to sell it sooner than I was wanting to.
