Thermometer method is genius wish I saw this before I struggled

Great tips and unorthodox method... I wish I would've thought of that.... Because checking from above with the air box partially loosened is a pain... Also... Manual says it only loses 4. Some quarts doing a drain. Definitely lost more in my case... Dropped the pan also and left it dripping so long... I think almost 6 quarts came out. I only bought 5... I thought that was gonna be enough of a buffer. Should've bought a couple more. I had to add about half a quart back of the old trans fluid... I ran it through a filter but... Damn. What a kick in the ass... What type of gasket did you use?

I actually let this drain overnight as well because I misplaced the filter and couldn't find it that day. Oem gasket is pink looking RTV. I ended up using The Right Stuff brand grey 1 minute return to service rtv. I dabble a thin layer on the pan, then on the transmission case side. That way, you don't have excessive squish out.

I was thinking there must be a better way of doing this with the airbox on and you showed its possible. My biggest issue is getting a food thermometer that would work. You got one that works like a switchblade so its perfect.

I got that at Walmart. If I remember correctly

@@ronaldmachesky7177 I'm going to need to make another trip to Walmart then. Or if I'm lazy to, I might try an infrared thermometer and point it into the dip stick.

Just put top of air box on start car, warm to 122 and leave it running when checking fluid

How much more does it cost to put in a normal long dip stick. Come on.
