Once point of clarification I want to emphasize, because the demonstrator glides over it rather quickly . . . Make sure your EPB is OFF before you begin this procedure. (Foot off pedals) Press start twice, foot on brake as you release the EPB. Now you can begin the process of holding down the accelerator and EPB lever as you press start 3 times at moderate pace. If the EPB is engage when you try this procedure, it won't work, nothing happens.

I just finished the install of new rear brake pads on my 2017 Mazda CX-5. I put it in service mode when I started, but when I finished, I couldn't get it out of the service mode. I followed the steps exactly. The car turns on and I can drive it just fine. Brakes work and no longer squeak. What am I missing? Did I install something incorrectly and that's why it's stuck in service mode?
@jay421712 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue. Did you find a fix or workaround?
@jay421712 жыл бұрын
I just managed to get my CX-5 out of service mode. It was a fluke. I went thru the process that has been noted, Hit start twice, then hold accelerator down while pulling up on parking brake lever, then hit start 3 times....but on the last time I tried it, out of frustration, I went through process, but at the end, hit the start button just twice, paused for a few seconds, then hit start one more time and poof, it went out of service mode and everything works. I must have done this process 30 times and then as I said it was a fluke and service mode is gone. Thank goodness!!

Do you still have to press the brake pistant back with a tool to make room for new pads..
@416diy4 жыл бұрын
Henrik madsen Yes, you absolutely have to press the piston back. The good news is that the piston goes back straight, the same as the front caliper pistons. Do not twist the rear pistons back, even though they look like the type that would need to be twisted.

Press 3 times slowly (all three within 5 seconds, but press slowly).
@dlinkfpv40872 жыл бұрын
5 seconds is way tooo long, just 1 second in between pauses will do. The point is to; 1. Off the power 2. Switch to Accessories 3. Switch to Ignition Thats the idea of 1,2,3 he missed it the first time because he did it way too fast.

It should work fine for your cx9. To the best of my memory, once the mirrors start moving you can let go of the buttons, but you also don't have to.

Is there a chance for the EPB to come out of maintenance mode by itself after a bit of time (i.e. I have several projects running in the garage and might have the pads/calipers off for a couple of days) and fully decompress the piston (which nobody wants).
@matthewozack26332 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't you just re due the process if it ever did and think only way it would come out of it would be no battery connection I may be wrong who knows let me know if it ever does time off tho thank you!
@Billy.Matson2 жыл бұрын
I tried to use service mode, but my caliber was off the rotor already causing the e-brake to decompress all the way(also an error putting the car into service mode). I don’t believe this method will work now to fix the fully decompressed piston. Has anyone seen this?
@PsychoFisho2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've seen this on the cx-5 FB group. You've caused irreversible damage to the linkage between the motor and the caliper. Once you've "popped" the EPB motor mechanism all the way out, there's no way to put it back in. Remove the EPB motor assembly from the caliper, reset the piston, install a New motor assembly. That's what I mean by damage. You can't just disassemble and reassemble. It requires replacement of the expensive EPB motor assembly. You can't be upset with Mazda. ALL brands of EPB require a precise sequence of steps to set the EPB into maintenance mode before removing the caliper from the mounting bracket. If done incorrectly, it will always result in having to replace the motor assembly. Its just how it is.

@416diy4 жыл бұрын
Josh Brito do you apply your parking brake with a traditional lever or by pressing a switch? If by pressing a switch, then you have an electronic parking brake and you need to do this. I think all 2019 CX3 have EPB, but not 100% sure.

So does this open the piston to where the new pads will just slide in with no needing to press it more in?
@416diy2 жыл бұрын
No, it only retracts the parking brake motors so that you can press the piston back. Press the straight back, they do not twist, even though it looks like a twist type
@rjchavo1962 жыл бұрын
@@416diy no bleeding required ?
@416diy2 жыл бұрын
Some people like to, I don't bleed them unless I'm disconnecting the brake hose for any reason, usually to replace a caliper.
@rjchavo1962 жыл бұрын
@@416diy just wondering if the pedal stops higher with the new pads without bleeding .
@416diy2 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you for sure, because I did the rear brakes right when I got the car, and it was a couple of years ago. I can tell you it still brakes fine today.
@juukame2 жыл бұрын
So when doing brake work, maintenance mode is always necessary even if the car is just in park without the epb engaged? If one was to try changing brakes with the car just in park would it still be possible to push the caliper piston back, but just take more force?
@416diy2 жыл бұрын
Don't do it. I don't know from first-hand experience, but from what I've read, you'll destroy the motors.
