If you start the engine, put on your seatbelt, go into first gear or Drive in case of AT, start accelerating the car as you would want to set in motion and the parking break will disengage by itself. That's why it's called Auto Parking Break. I own a Mada 3 sedan 2019 model.

@JSS3 жыл бұрын
With seatbelt on, the brake releases when you press the accelerator in gear. I don’t like this feature, because I often am not wearing a seatbelt when moving cars around the lot. However, it will not do any damage if not heavily accelerating before release.

Thanks Jonathan for great video. I'm on the other side of the pond doing the right hand drive, so brake controls will be left handed. Think Mazda could improve it by making the controls easier to find physically and NOT putting any LED on them, as you should never be looking down. It's the future though so I need to go for a test drive. Think it will be ok with Mazda's lovely hydraulic Asin Autobox. I'm not so sure about it all in a manual pudding stirrer as I don't yet have three legs (my traditional preference is to left foot brake an auto when I get to the "getting ready to go" point.). Thanks again for a great video.

It is possible this could be an example of over engineering since simply putting the parking brake on would accomplish the same thing. At the least there should be a way to permanently disengage auto hold for those who don't want it. Just my experience but keep making everything overly complicated, people like that, it will help your sales.

Okay, while it's a nice safety feature that EPB won't release until you have your seatbelt on, here's where it's annoying: moving the car out of the garage and onto the driveway (to wash the car, load it, etc.), then back into the garage when the chores are done. Even though I'm not actually driving anywhere, this feature won't let me move the car---even by a few feet, unless I put the seatbelt on...every single time!

Is there a way to stop the electronic parking brake from engaging automatically once you're parked up? I know that technically you're not supposed to rely on the parking pawl in the transmission, but I will be parking my 3 up for a few weeks at the airport and dont want the rear pads welded to the discs by rust. Or does the extra pressure from the electric brake make this less of an issue?

I find that parking break to be highly annoying. It’s an automatic car ... why is it there? I think our Toyota CHR actually does the same thing but when you put the car in drive it just goes, and when you park you can feel the car auto lock down- no button/control needed. There is literally no need for that control and it’s a bit confusing when you first get the car, but I see people have addressed this, I’ll make sure the seatbelt is buckled before putting it in drive and see.
@JSS3 жыл бұрын
It was first a problem for me because I don’t often buckle my seat belt to move vehicles around the dealership parking lot. I got hung up all the time. However driving it regularly with a seatbelt would be smooth operation.

I've had my 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback for 2.5 months and just noticed the auto hold button today. My question is, how does this work if another vehicle rear ends you while your vehicle is in auto hold? Does it function like brakes or will the vehicle move forward and crash into whatever is in front of you?
@JSS4 жыл бұрын
Mountain Climber This feature is not designed for that purpose. The Auto Hold uses the electronic parking brake as a convenience to not have to manually hold the brake on inclines or prolonged stops. The parking brake is designed to hold only the weight of the car. It is not intended to prevent sliding when something exerts force on the car. So I’m the event you have auto hold or the parking brake engaged and are rear ended you will move forward and be susceptible to impact ahead of you. Please be safe! Enjoy your amazing vehicle. Thank you for watching!
