why are people so hang up on touch screens. that's why there's a rotary knob in the center console. Mazda doesn't want to incorporate a touch screen because they consider it to be distracting and dangerous. so I'll say kudos to Mazda for being some what considerate even though a lot of people won't see it that way. touch screen is only accessible for Android auto and Apple car play but only while in parking. and that's good enough for me. great review love this CX90.

Pros: Straight 6, longitudinally mounted. Nice interior appointments. Decent performance for the segment. Cons: The rear end looks like a hearse. There is no adaptive suspension offered.

I'm with you on the rear end 🙂 As for adaptive suspension, that would be nice, and almost expected in the highest trim. But when comparing lower trims to the vehicles Omar mentions in his post (Pilot, Telluride, Palisade), the Korean twins don't have it, and I don't think the new Pilot has it either. I've looked at so many of these 3-row unibody vehicles recently that I can't remember which ones do have adaptive suspension. Maybe the MDX Type S? What really is disappointing to me is the acceleration.

Adaptive suspension is not needed on CX-90, the suspension if more than good enough. If you need one for ride quality you are not buying Mazda anyways. Developing and offering adaptive suspension would add to the cost, those would have to be recouped.

I just feel like they took a brilliant platform and made it look like a typical soccer mom SUV as tastefully as that can be done. They should create a legendary shooting brake or sedan with styling elements from the award winning Mazda3 hatch. Maybe an all new Mazda 9 reminiscing on the 929? I mean, they have all the ingredients to work with so, why not? That'll draw people into the show room.

I checked out this vehicle at my local dealership - it seemed much bigger in person. The fit and finish were outstanding - it is certainly well put together. Haven't test driven it. I like the idea of the inline v6 with the full time rear wheel drive, but I don't need 3rd row seating. CX70 where are you?

The CX70 and the CX90 in the Premium Plus trim with 280hp are roughly the same price. The major difference being a middle bench seat for a total of seats for 5 and a big covered plastic hole behind it where a 3-person rear bench seat use to be. For my money I'd take the CX90 with the possibility of seating seven if I need to, give up the hole and fill it with the rear 3-person bench folded away.

There's a very specific use case where PHEV is the only solution for now and a lot of people fit into it. Its for folks with a commute under 25 miles ( a lot of people fit in this) who have chargers at work. These folks have large families and also like camping so those road trips to the middle of nowhere dont get hampered by the lack of charging infrastructure out there. Lets be honest charging infrastructure in rural Canada is not there yet. You have to choose a specific route and it can cause anxiety. So a PHEV covers daily commute in EV mode and that might be 90% of driving. The last remaining 10% out of town driving is stress free. When there is EV charging infrastructure everywhere it becomes moot and a pure EV is the way to go but a PHEV is a really sensible choice till then.

Thanks for this review Omar. I'm looking at all the 3-row unibody SUVs right now (to replace a very old Suburban.) We don't really need the 3rd row but we want the extra cargo room that folding the 3rd row typically gives you. At the same time, if there were a 2-row with over 40 cu ft of cargo space, that would be fine too, but the highest I've seen is in the mid to high 30's. My main disappointment with this CX-90 is two-fold. 1st, it doesn't have the kind of cargo space the new '23 Pilot does (or the Korean twins), and 2nd, I can't get a bench seat in the top trim with all the goodies. In fact the list of tech and features that the Turbo S Premium Plus has that the next one down doesn't is pretty extensive, more than any of the other brands I've looked at. Mazda is hardly alone in assuming that if I'm a bit older, I don't need a bench seat, but nevertheless it is *highly* irritating!!! I will have to wait to see how much cargo space the CX-70 offers (in the U.S. - apparently Mazda increases the cargo space of the CX-60 that is out in Europe) and if it is in the mid to high 30 cubic feet, I'm game. It's just that we really need a car *now*.

No mention of the Nissan Pathfinder? For about $20,000 less, you get a way more comfortable drive and ride , cars are on the lots and mark ups are not, their 3.5 liter V - 6 is an engine rated in the top ten over the past several years (Scotty Kilmer calls it " bulletproof " ) and their lease rates are fantastic. Omar, my interest is the turbo s premium plus but how comfortable did you find the drivers seat? My wife has a 2023 rx and the seat are very comfortable, my son has a 2023 x5 and those are firm. How are these seats and do you feel cramped width wise? Thanks!

Omar, thanks for this review. Would you say (or could you notice) if the PHEV suspension tuning is any softer than that of the I6? I'm in my 60's and am ready for a more cushy ride than what I'm hearing you and others describe. It's just that no one has made any distinction between the two powertrains. Also, if you've driven an X5 recently, is it any softer than this? I know, it's only a 2 row, but it may have about the same cargo space. One last question - is there a way to turn off the synthesized engine sound in the stereo system? Thanks again.
@omardrives
@omardrives Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I will say that the phev is definitely smoother than the Turbo S. We didn't get to drive the regular Turbo so can't speak on that one. Compared to an X5 I will say it's a little similar to that although the X5 feels heavier to drive around. As for the sound, I honestly didn't have time to check for that but I will when I get it for a longer period of time to review. If you're looking for a lot of comfort and quiet I'd recommend checking out the Lexus RX 👍

What's the different between CX90 and CX9?
@toshitanaka1550
@toshitanaka1550 Жыл бұрын
CX-90 is going to be the flagship for Mazda’s mid-size SUV. The body length is longer than the CX-9 by a slight margin. The big difference for both is CX-9 is not as a luxury look as compared to the CX-90. The front grill is different. The CX-9 has a fill on its grill while the CX-90 is similar to the CX-5’s grill. The head lights on the CX-9 is in front geometrically while the CX-90 has its head lights compressed back with some LED light streams flowing towards the head lights. Those are the main difference then you have the engine difference and customizations that you can go into.
@alexmassengale433
@alexmassengale433 Жыл бұрын
I think Mazda made the same mistake that they did with the CX-9 which is frustrating. They managed to create a car as big on the outside as any other car in the class that has inferior interior packaging. As a car people are primarily looking at for family duty, that will cost them a lot of sales. I loved my test drive of the CX-9 but at the end of the day the fact that its cargo space was at the bottom of the class (behind the second row almost exactly the same as a CRV!) and the third row was a joke meant it wouldn't work for our family. This too is a giant vehicle on the outside with far less cargo and interior space than a Pilot and or the few inches shorter Telluride. It won't sell any better than the CX-9. I don't understand how Mazda doesn't seem to get that a big part of their also ran status on things like the CX5, CX9 and now CX-90 is worst in class packaging.
