Good morning guys! Welcome to video 2 of 4 that will be posting this week from our drives last week! We're also leaving for the New York Auto Show tomorrow, so stay tuned for a bunch of coverage at the show as well later this week! We also want to apologize for this video being roughly twice the length of our usual reviews, we decided to combine both the CX-90 Turbo S and CX-90 PHEV into 1 video! Trying to decide between the two powertrain is probably the hard part since they are both so good, but also so different! Which would you choose?

With the PHEV having a heat pump, you can heat/cool the car (or listen to music) with the engine off. Great for waiting in the car in hot summers or cold winters. Also full EV driving in the city. Only problem with it is the unpainted arches and skirts 🤦🏼♂️

@@justanotherasian4395 Yes, I found out more information on the new 8 speed Mazda transmission. The Torque converter is replaced with a planetary gear set and a 3 input wet clutch. Wet or dry, it is still a clutch that is a wear item and I suspect is responsible for the jerky starts that so many have reported. Since it replaces a fluid coupling of a torque converter with a clutch, it has the same problems of a DCT

Saw a lot of people here trying to decide between the telluride, Highlander and the CX-90. It’s simple, if interior space is your priority, CX-90 would lose every time, as it was never designed to be a minivan alternative. But if you care about design, craftsmanship, driving dynamics, and how all of them come together as a whole, it would literally be an insult to even compare the CX-90 to the highlander, telluride, or even the MDX. Nobody in their right mind, given they know at least a little bit about cars, would compare a RWD inline-6 turbo setup to a bunch of FWD turbo 4 and V6 cars and ask which is better - they are not even in the same league. Can’t believe we are still having this conversation…

You did a really nice review of the new CX90. I'm looking at making the CX90 our new family vehicle. One thing on the soft touch molded plastic. I appreciate the choice of material in that location. While leather is nice, it takes some tlc over the years to make sure the sun doesn't shrink the leather in those areas. I have three children and a busy life. I don't need a car which requires meticulous care to the leather. I just don't have the time or the will to take care of it. Of course, that's my life and my perspective. One thing I found impressive is the bolstering of this vehicle. Granted I haven't had a personal experience with it, but watching you, you had very little sliding back and forth when carving the curves of your route. One request: when you complete your 0-60 test, can you consider adding a rolling start to 70 test? This would be something akin to an onramp to the interstate. Maybe something like 20-70? Excellent reviews sir. Thank you and keep up the great work!!!

I just test drove this thing today. Great looking, soaks up road bumps pretty well for the wheel size. Also interior feels and looks great, although i did not get much time to play with the instrument cluster and infotainment. With all the positives in mind, i noticed one big and one subjective flaw. If you are taller than 6 foot (i am 6' 4"), i am pretty sure you will hate the driver seat. I also weigh 220 lbs, so not too bulky. The middle cluster to the door panel width is too narrow! There is no way to relax the legs a bit. It forces you to sit lets say properly and straight. Good for short trips, horrible for anything longer than 1 hr. This is a big bummer for me. 2nd, the top engine is too loud in the cabin especially when being aggressive with the pedal, and also it is not as torque rich as the spec claims. It will be hard to get better than say 6.5 second 0-60 on a regular basis, although i did not mesure it. Anyways maybe it needs some breaking in. The latter is bot that big of a deal to me personally, but the former is a deal breaker. Anyone else experience this?

I think it looks really quite good. It is a bit more distinctive and I think that the front end is particularly attractive. It has a hint of restraint while remaining just interesting enough to not totally put you to sleep. Of course, it is as attractive as a middle-class soccer mom 3-row SUV can be. It is at least not as dull as an Ascent or a Highlander

I like the front. Hate the back. It's too bulbous and hearse-like. Love the interior!

I’m really curious on the mileage on the PHEV. In addition, is the CX-90 PHEV eligible for tax credit? I will definitely buy this model if both are a yes.

No, it’s built in Japan.

Not as impressed as i thought either. But glad they have a PHEV in there lineup. speed aint everything but figured it be faster after all that online bragging saying they would kill it with the Inline6.
@markcoopers1930 Жыл бұрын
Inline 6's are inherently more balanced and smoother than inline 4 and V6. That plus RWD bias AWD in a unibody vehicle make it stand out from Mazdas' traditional competition. Have to look at Genisis and the Germans for RWD bias (and I guess the grand Cherokee L), and only the Germans for the inline 6. That's why everyone was (is) excited.

Perhaps the most interesting part is at 38:00 That's the difference in mazda's hybrid system, electric motor in ev mode only that still shifts thru its 8at just like its ICE.
@williamaseng Жыл бұрын
I guess just in case the ICE needs to kick in, it would be in the right gear.

18:28 That’s the exact same shifter that’s in the MX-30. So I imagine it will be in all Mazda products in a few years.

Fantastic car and fantastic review! If this is a prelude to the CX 70, I'm ready to lay out some serious coin!

Same here, this is a bit too big for me and the CX70 PHEV might be the one for me but I'm sure with a couple of options even the mid trim will get to 60k real quick.

CX-60/70/80/90 everything all the same except the body style and size. You should consider that everything is new and unless Mazda has done something that no other manufacturer has done, there will be bugs to work out. I own a CX-5 and love it but I will wait for Mazda to fix all the problems first

@@makatron Well everything is completely new. I have a real concern with the mild hybrid that has a DCT automatic. Mazda eliminated the torque converter and replaced it with a small electric motor and battery. From what I read, it must operate on the battery and electric motor below 5 mpg, otherwise the DCT would have to slip the clutches. That means the gas engine shuts down below 5 mpg and what happens if you are stuck in stop and go traffic and that small battery is depleted? Too complex and too many questions until I see some long term reviews on vehicles with 50K+ miles and that will take a year or two

@@clarkkent9080 stop and go system have an override though, but still gotta wait real world reviews and not a car channel that drove it for 3 days.
