Im not an expert, but I don't think you should be VERY (key word) concerned by the dark oil. From what i know the oil turns black mainly because of two factors; heat cycles and cleaning detergents(?). Just like when frying somsthing on cooking oil, it turns dark after you heat-cool it. And if that motor has that many miles on it, and if it never was cleaned/rebuild it surely is a bit nasty inside, so the darkening comes up a little faster than in brand new car. However (again, im not an expert) the fact that it is dark, does not mean its properties (both cleaning and lubing) are lost. The only real way to know it, sadly, is to send the oil to some lab to perform an analys on it. I dont remember the conversion, but if 1k miles is ~3k km, the dark oil shouldnt concern you that much. If the engine is really nasty inside, very very low milage can get the oil to darken, and by very low I mean 500km or even less. But if you beat it as you say, it surely will not hurt ur baby

But it probably hurts the wallet :D but just look at this car, it is worth every penny

I agree with you there, the rings are probably tired and not sealing great allowing carbon to get in the oil is my theory. I appreciate the comment!
