Amazingly helpful video, thank you. Haven't had to change my thermostat yet thankfully, but when it comes time to do so this video will be invaluable.

Did mine yesterday. Took forever due to inclement weather and Mr Sausage Fingers coming to town... the thermostat bolts weren't the easiest to remove/replace, but the grease in the socket tip worked well. Thank you once again for a very useful and informative post.

Are you sure expansion tank should be full all the way to the top? I think there should be some room for fluid expansion otherwise it may blow off the cap.

@mnap89 for the ease of bleeding you get the water level above the highest part of the system. You can take some out after if you want to.

Unless the mk3.7 or what ever u have, changed the specifications in the later models but I know for a fact the NC used special Mazda FL22 coolant that’s green, I strongly suggest you double check cuz I know for a fact red coolant will fk something up

Thanks for heads up. You are right, but the GL12+ is also free of silicates and is based on ethylene glycol. I will add the FL22 info to details.

Can you replace all the coolant without removing the thermostat? And how much coolant came out of the radiator?

Another great video. Very informative. Can I ask if you have replaced your throttle housing gasket, and if so, Mazda or Ford item? I understand that a Ford ST or RS gasket will fit and is about a third of the cost. Thanks for the share.

Hi. I just cleaned the rubber gasket between the throttle body and intake. Unfortunately I can't help you further

Wish I had thought to use grease on the socket when I changed the 'stat on mine. Mine bled through easily (but is standard). My previous NC was a very early one. On these there was an issue where a minor air lock could appear when parked. Park pointing down hill and you had no heater irrespective of engine temperature until you had got the revs high for a bit. Think Mazda changed the routing of one of the cooling system hoses to fix this (possibly done as a recall in some markets)
