I’ve been needing to replace my thermostat on my 2008 miata that I just got and this video helped me out so much, i studied this video , bought what i needed to , and got started . I will say it was absolute hell getting that thing replaced though . Once I got the throttle body off I spent at least 2 hours trying to get the smaller hose that’s attached to the thermostat off and in the middle of the job I had to go pick up the correct pliers and it was still hell, then I got it off and I kept dripping stuff in my car and I had to fish it out . Anyway the point is this was hell but it was worth it and saved me money in the end and I’m very thankful for this video. It took me a total of 6 hours to get this done in one sitting😭

Thanks so much for this video. I have been needing to replace the thermostat on my 2006 for a while but I read some horror stories online of how difficult it can be so I have been putting it off - this video is a life saver. I plan to tackle this job during one of the next couple of weekends before the track season starts!

I was hoping that it would be as easy as my Mk3 Cortina was back in the day! (done in 10 mins!). I think I'll have to get the garage to do this !

While viewing yr "how to" vid. I noticed yr belt seems/shows wore spots... if you haven't done so yet. Will you be replacing that belt and doing a "how to" vid as well?

great video. quick question, when you bleed the system do you keep the cap off while running the car? i know its a pressurized system so wasn't sure
@ranis8959

@@AlexTheGrumpyOne thank you Alex. but with other cars i usually have the engine run so the thermostat will open and get all the air out of the system. these cars had a radiator cap. since this is a pressurized system, to bleed the engine block i need to have the car reach operating temp so the thermostat will open but wasn't sure if i can do it with a funnel and the pressure reservoir cap off. thank you for such an amazing video

Ohh sorry bud my mistake. For some reason I thought about the brake fluid bleeding. I only realised what video it is now... I do apologise! Yeah when bleeding the system you definitely need engine running and keeping an eye on yhe coolant level. I leave the cap off in the begging to keep it full while its filing up and then closer to normal op temperature I put it back on 😀 to pressurise it.

@@AlexTheGrumpyOne any time. This is a 2007 Miata that I have as a summer toy car with only 44k miles so it’s my first cooling system flush and want to change the thermostat and water pump since it’s too old also the tank I order the maroso one. I’m a bimmer guy so not so much experience on the NC. Please add more videos you rock brother

What does it mean? Btw I used equivalent to fl22... the green for asian for my mx5...same yr etc as yrs l. I noticed low coolant I topped ot off the when I drive or mx5 warms up on AC or Heat on. The coolant comes out of overflow reservoir tube. It shows low coolant again. I repeated a few time w same results. I'm thinking thermostat malfunctioned, needs replaced. I'm a hands on non-professional diy'r. Am i on target? Pl ty

I would recommend doing headgasket check or try and bleed cooling system to make sure u got no air lock

Yr reservoir history per yr make, model etc is prone to break n leak causing fatal damage to yr motor... If you've not done so, pl make a vid replacement of reservoir pl ty.
