Mazda R100 Restoration Part 1 - Quarter Repair

Getting started on the Mazda R100 restoration by tackling the nasty, crumpled quarter panel area first. I was supplied a rusty donor cut so I remade the outer lower quarter on that, then unpicked the car itself to remake and replace all of the inner layers (wheelarch, inner quarter and boot floor). The boot lid was severely warped by the sandblaster so I will be remaking a new boot lid too as they don't seem to be readily available. The taillight section and beaver are not yet attached as I might be remaking them also.
Cheers and thanks for watching!

It came together quite fast which was nice, you don't normally get that lucky with panel damage and it requires pulling and moving the car around to suit.

It would be interesting to know how many hours it took to get the repairs finished, was it a full week? Looks pretty costly to have the wrong person blasting your car. Thanks for the video, always pleasing to see the process of creating the bodywork 😊
@notevn
@notevn 6 ай бұрын
I thought I said how many hours I must have missed that bit, was 3 and a half days I think (8hr days) just under or at 30hrs from memory. Yeah its super bad and unfortunately very common for blasters to ruin cars.

Do you recommend something else other than Sand blasting for full restorations like this? (Given the mess that it's made)
@notevn
@notevn 5 ай бұрын
Sandblasting is fine, having the operator who knows how to blast very thin metals is the key, I've had multiple cars blasted by the same person (matt at hydrablast) with flawless results and no damage.
