Mazda RX7 FD replace the low fuel warning sensor

SAFETY OBSERVATION: Avoid using power tools when removing or reinstalling screws around a fuel tank. The fuel vapor may ignite from the sparks generated by most commercial power tools
If Your fuel low level Yellow light doesn't work anymore check the bulb, then it could be the sensor. Mazda just sell all the assembly for a very High Price (over 600€ in Europe). I found just the sensor for about 20£ (buy links listed below). You just need to remove You fuel pump and replace the sensor.

I quote a possible "easy" solutiom for everyone. "In my experience, the easy fix for the low fuel level sensor is to spray contact cleaner in the small holes on the sensor it self. A few sprays is all it takes and it is fixed. This has worked on 3 RX-7s for me so far" I can t report the link to the thread on Rxclub forums because KZbin will delete this comment because of external links. CONTACT CLEANER DID THE TRICK!!!! IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM......I "SEE THE LIGHT".....low fuel light! :) Before desoldering and soldering the low level fuel sensor as shown in this video try the contact cleaner easy fix! Spray both inside the sensor through the small holes and on pump assembly contacts! I'm so happy!!!

This is the only I found. I think is a generic sensor so since is cheap You can try at Your local store if they have it.

Nella mia FD ha funzionato alla grande, suppongo sia uguale anche per te 🙂 Fammi sapere se posso aiutarti in altro modo. @@CantharusENG Ciao, sono di Bologna. PIacere di conoscerti. Posseggo una RX7 FC Cabrio conservata in condizioni da showroom! Questa qui del video che ti linko é proprio la mia abbiamo fatto il filmato con un mio amico videomaker. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHTLoKKQq75jaa8 Forse il mio sensore di carburante basso si é guastato ma non ne sono sicuro. Ti spiego il mio problema: la RX7 Cabrio la uso praticamente solo nei mesi che vanno da Giugno a Settembre (il periodo giusto per "scappottare" essendo cabrio). Per il resto dell'anno rimane rimessata in un garage coperto. Una volta al mese o poco piú la metto in moto! Succede che finisce spesso la benzina (la lascio accesa una 40ina di minuti alla volta). Ci metto di solito 3 litri nel serbatoio che mi garantiscono un paio di accenioni nei mesi invernali! La spia funzionava fino a un mese fa! L'ultima volta ho messo 4 litri di benzina poi l'ho tenuta accesa parecchio, l'indicatore cioé la lancetta era quasi a zero ma la spia é rimasta spenta! Questi sensori si bruciano frequentamente? Dovrei provare a mettere piú litri di benzina e aspettare che la lancetta cali per vedere il comportamento? Forse é una questione elettronica? La pompa della FC é praticamente uguale a quella della FD. Vedo che smontarla anche nella FC é facilissimo. Se la estraggo é un occasione buona per pulire il filtrino che in quasi 40 anni non é sicuramente mai stato pulito! Ciao e grazie! Ma non mi é chiara una cosa: se il sensore é rotto quindi la resistenza é alta la luce sta accesa? Da me succede il contrario cioé che la luce non si accende. Inoltre nella FC c'é il pannello centrale con tutte le spie (chiamato dagli inglesi "IDIOT LIGHTS CLUSTER" :) ). Quando inserisco la chiave si accendono tutte le spie in fase di check......e si accende anche la spia della riserva. E- quando l'auto é in moto con pochissimo carburante che la spia riserva rimane spenta (ribadisco fino a poco tempo fa funzionava). C'é da dire una cosa: mi sono letto la descrizione nel link del ricambio che mi hai dato: il sensore non é altro che un "termistore" che quando é immerso nella benzina sta freddo e quando é esposto all'aria si scalda quindi diminuisce la resistenza e quindi fa accendere la spia. Devo dire che ultimamente ho acceso l'auto con temperatura ambientale sotto i 7 gradi. Anche se il termistore era scoperto non vorrei che questo avesse influenzato il terminstore. Booooh. Faró altri test la prossima volta che vado ad accendere l RX7. Che si sia bruciato cosí improvvisamente ti pare plausibile?

Stupenda la tua FC, sembra davvero nuova. Prova prima se è la lampadina del cruscotto. Per farlo devi fare un piccolo ponte elettrico che devi verificare nel manuale d'officina della tua FC. Quando fai test vicino la pompa del carburante disconnetti lo spinotto. Un eventuale corto non crea scintille dentro il serbatoio 😅.

Grazie per il suggerimento ma come ho aggiunto sopra (forse non avevi letto l'aggiunta) quando giro la chiave senza mettere in moto nel cluster con tutte le spie si accende anche la spia della riserva (é una sorta di check primitivo di tutti i sistemi). E' a motore in moto che la spia non si sta piú accendendo. Come detto non so quando possano influire le temperature molto basse di queste settimane sul riscaldamento del termistore e sul fatto che fa accendere la lampadina della riserva.

@@Gregorio.E.Ventura Non avevo letto l'aggiunta. da me si è rotto dall'oggi al domani. Non credo che funzioni su sbalzi di temperatura, magari avrà un confronto con altri sensori di temperatura esterna, altrimenti d'inverno da te e d'estate da me darebbe false indicazioni. Se recuperi i manuali (su RX7club.com) li trovi certamente prova a fare il ponte nello spinotto della pompa carburante, ti assicuri intanto che non ci siano guasti nei fili elettrici o che non sia qualche spinotto messo male o contatto ossidato.☺
