That "shaft play" isn't necessarily really shaft play. There's no oil pressure in the turbo for the journal bearings so it's going to move some. Your turbo is probably ok.

i just install a CST4 turbo on my 1gen it is a pain to deal whit old crusty bolt.

currently in the middle of this project and i can not get this downpipe to budge at all. i have all bolts out but one because i cant reach it and need to go buy a tool, but even with one bolt left, the downpipe doesn’t budge at all am i missing something?

Did the ebay catless dp actually fit up to the stock catback I bought one and havent attempted it yet so wanted to know what I might have to be ready for before installing. My only thought is that the downpipe isn't long enough to match up to the catback

Brought it to an exhaust shop, they extended the stock catback to fit with the downpipe. Fitment can vary per downpipe

I bought an downpipe to exhaust adapter, zip tied the downpipe to the catback & drove it to the exhaust shop 😂
