Megan purchased this car a few years ago, used, and soon after complained about a noise. I had heard a different noise than what she was complaining about, and it wasn't until a year or so later that I heard the rattling that this video is about.
I do all of her maintenance, so I have looked for the source several times, and she has had it into a garage, and they said that they didn't find anything. After years of confusion, I finally figured it out.
I would like to note that I would have probably found the noise, except that when you take weight off of the wheels, the noise would stop. This not only made it hard to find, but also made it a little confusing.

Dude, you're a lifesaver!! Had this same jingle jangle in my Speed's rear since I got it, and found this vid which explained it perfectly. I went to my garage and felt inside the bottom where the coil sits, and sure enough there was a piece of the coil loosely resting in there. Haven't got it out just yet but noticed the driver side coil looked newer like it had already been replaced. Many huge thanks my brother in Speed.

Wow, that's crazy, having to diagnose that noise and finding out it was the spring that had broken, cheers for something different, mixing up the content

Thanks for the comment, Adrian. I had a hard time finding this, so I thought it may be able to help someone. I am still working on the X2, actually working on it right now, but I figured if I had to fix the car, I might as well make a video of it.

The previous owners put the rear brake pads on in reverse, the outside in and the inside out. You can see cause the inside has a bow tie spring wire on the pad and the bare one goes on the outside cause of the spring wire clip that keeps it from rattling. So no broken spring for me, but the wheel had the same rattle when kicking the wheel.

This must be a defect on Mazda springs and I was pretty sure it wasn't the struts because I had them replaced... I have the same problem and my son's Mazda is also making the same clanking noise. Thanks for the find!

Yeah, you're not the first person to leave a comment saying this. Seems like a pretty common failure point.

omg you have no idea how much this was driving me bananas like the past 6 months, i went to multiple shops and no one could help me!! that whole time it was just a busted piece of spring that i fished out in like 5 minutes without even needing to jack up my car 🙃

Broken rear springs are pretty common on these cars especially in east coast/rust belt areas.

This whole video reminds me of being an auto mechanic. Pretty weird that the springs broke, but that kinda stuff happens. High school band name and high school nick name 😂😂😂😂😂

I would not want to be an automotive mechanic. I know it's not all bad, but some of it is, haha. I have seen spring fail like this before... but on both sides on a newer vehicle with low miles... not usually, from what I know. Neither of those things are true BTW, lol... I wasn't in a band and I didn't have a nickname 😂

Never seen a car spring brake like that, but totally cool that is was just that small amount where the spring rests and having very littlle effect to you ride height (if any). I would have done the same thing... run 'em!

Yeah, it's literally been that way for a few years now, and it handles fine, so it's all good.

That is shitty quality control for a Japanese car spring this is super common on mazda 3s from what I've been reading shoild have been a recall for nothing.

I agree. This shouldn't be happening on cars that are 10 years old when there are 30 year old cars without spring issues.

I think my speed3 is having this broken spring issue. I need to look. Over bumps it sounds like a landscape trailer or someone smacking tin foil. Your front end clunk noise is probably the front sway bar bushings
