Hi there, I recently gave my 8th graders (in my reading intervention) the Maze Assessment. I believe I calculated the score correctly. They answered 15 of the questions in the 3 minute time limit. They answered 11 correctly, and 4 incorrectly. I calculated the adjusted score as 9. I looked it up and the at or above benchmark is 70+ for eighth grade. Is this correct? Is there another test I could give my 8th graders who are well below grade level in reading?

In 8th grade, there are 3 Maze passages for universal screening - one science, one social studies and one prose. So the benchmark goal you mentioned sounds like a combination of the three passages. If your students are struggling readers, I suggest going straight to the ORF material where you think they can read for meaning and following that with diagnostic assessment.
